Benjamin Moore’s Swiss Coffee is a popular white color. If you found this review article, it is probably because you are considering it for your home. And it could be the perfect white color for you! But I haven’t used it, and I probably won’t. Read on to find out why!
Sherwin Williams Version Of Swiss Coffee
If you’ve been around for a while, you know I really love white walls. There are four popular white colors for walls:
The Best Creamy Warm White Paint Colors
Swiss Coffee is so popular that it is often used by design professionals, including the famous and beloved designer Shea McGee of Studio McGee (and it looks great in the beautiful design below). He uses up to 75% of the power in most of his houses. But Swiss Coffee is my favorite choice among these famous whites. Why? It all has to do with his voice.
Swiss coffee is considered a warm white because it contains a little yellow in the formula. For my personal taste, it’s a bit warmer and more beige than white. I mean, look at the image from Benjamin Moore’s Swiss Coffee website below. I think a lot of people think it’s more beige or white than white. The Swiss cafe looks even whiter in the upstairs space designed by Studio McGee because of the amount of natural light coming in from the big windows! But some people have homes with lots of natural light. I think it will look good together with the white walls (I like the off-white trim idea – that’s what we do in our house now).
If you’re looking for a more yellow-than-white shade of white, Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee is perfect for you. It is “part of the Off-White color collection. The Off-White collection is very sophisticated and timeless, offering a white color that is suitable for calm and peaceful environments and creates accents that enhance color for dynamic spaces.”
If you’ve read some of the other color reviews, you know that the undertone is the part of the color that you don’t really “see”. I talk more about undertones in this detailed article on how to choose colors for your home. It is very important to consider the color of any paint you are considering!
White Is The New Gray (paint)!
If you’ve ever asked “hot or cold Swiss coffee?” you really wonder at his voice. Swiss Coffee OC-45 has a very yellow color, so it is a warm color as mentioned above.
But most importantly, Swiss Coffee from Benjamin Moore has a bright green color, which means it can be green in some lights. Between the warmth of the color and the green color, Swiss Coffee is my favorite of the most popular whites and I don’t use it personally. You can see the green color in this dining room below (at least I saw them).
Like many tones, the color green is not really noticeable when you look at the color. But did you know that the paint from the store is not made of paint, so it is not very accurate? This is why it is so important to test paint colors using REAL colors (like paint samples) in your home. This is one of the best tips for choosing colors for your home.
He notes that on Benjamin Moore’s website, the “matching colors” are all beige and green. This is because Swiss Coffee is quite green. So it works well with the tone of the earth. I definitely don’t recommend it if you like to decorate with cooler colors, like blue and gray.
Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee Is It Right For You?
You can see that Swiss Coffee works well in the Blesser House living room with earthy tones. You’ll also notice that it looks less yellow in the living room because of all the natural light in it—it looks more yellow in a room that doesn’t get a lot of natural light.
Yes! Swiss Coffee from Benjamin Moore can be a good choice for you, especially if you like green color and use it a lot in your home decoration. If you find a color that matches the color above and represents the color you want to use in your home, then Swiss Coffee is perfect for your home. And if you are looking for a white color that is just white, then Benjamin Moore’s Swiss Coffee might be the best choice for you. However, if you are looking for bright white or cold white, you should continue your search.
Many websites incorrectly report the LRV of Swiss Coffee to be nearly 84, but according to Benjamin Moore, the LRV of Swiss Coffee is 81.91.
LRV, or light reflectance value, measures the percentage of light that is reflected from a surface. LRV ranges from 0-100, where 100 is pure white and 0 is completely black. Therefore, the LRV of Swiss Coffee is very high, but lower than that of its famous colleagues (Sherwin-WilliamsPure White, Sherwin-Williams Alabaster and Benjamin MooreWhite Dove).
Designer Approved Off White Color Paints To Try
The main difference between these two colors is that Swiss Coffee has a more yellow color and therefore has a warmer appearance on the wall than Alabaster. Alabaster has almost the same LRV as 82. If you want a sweet and warm white, I have to recommend Alabaster as an alternative to Swiss Coffee because Alabaster does not have the green color of Swiss Coffee.
Again, Swiss Coffee has a more yellow undertone than Sherwin-Williams Pure White. Alabaster is warmer than Pure White and Swiss coffee is warmer than Alabaster. This means that of the 3 whites, Swiss Coffee is the warmest/yellowest in appearance. Pure White also has a slightly higher LRV of 84. Pure-White is a more workable white for walls because there are no visible tones, so it looks great in almost all lighting conditions. Pure White is my go-to white wall color and the one I often recommend to people who ask for my advice!
Swiss coffee is sweeter and warmer than White Dove. White Dove is slightly brighter with an LRV of 83.16 compared to Swiss Coffee’s LRV of 81.91. If you are looking for a more muted white color, Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee is the best choice. But if you want the wall to look real white, Dove White is the best choice.

First things first: the color white is not really white. To understand this, you need to understand LRV.
Favorite White Paints
The light reflectance value or LRV of any color is a number given based on how much light the color reflects, with 0 being complete black and 100 being pure white. The higher the number, the more light is reflected.
None of the whites have an LRV of 100, however. Sherwin Williams High Reflective White (which is one of the most reflective whites you can get) is 93. Anything 80 or higher is considered white, and “white” can vary from ~ 70-80. So you have to ask yourself how bright white (LRV near 90) or soft white (LRV near 80) you want.
And he talks about “soft” white, less bright white, additional colors (also known as undertones) soften bright white. The color “white” has additional colors:
First, you have to consider the style. In general, warm white helps to create a pleasant feeling, and fits well in a more casual environment. Cold white, on the other hand, can be lighter and more modern. This is a generalization, of course, but a good starting point if you know you like a more traditional or modern vibe.
