Hello friends! Thank you so much for the incredible love in our backyard. The response has been amazing and we absolutely love our new space…we had temperatures over 106 weeks before this brutal and outrageous heat wave hit our area. DOWN. Needless to say, I can’t wait for it to pass so we can get back to some time outside. As hot as it has been lately, we actually started feeling the heat before we finished one of our biggest projects in the neighborhood: painting the deck. Luckily I was able to do it before the real shooters arrived. Today I’m sharing how I made this project.
My biggest goal for our outdoor space is to make our house feel like an extension. I wanted to really blur the interior and exterior lines, and I knew that painting the deck would be a big factor in contributing to that result. As beautiful as the natural redwood is, I didn’t want it to look or feel like a traditional wood deck. I love the warmth of the wood floor color in our home and hope to replicate that outside.

Since we used red wood, we had to wait several months before applying a stain or protective coating. This allows the wood and oil to dry completely, so it will take on better colors and produce better colors. Construction was completed in February and we let it dry for 5 months before painting in July. If you are working with wood such as pine or Douglas fir, you will have to wait longer before painting. After coming up with a game plan for how to tackle the project, I ordered Sherwin-Williams stain and picked up the material from the side.
I used a brush set, roller, metal plate, spray pump, and Sherwin-Williams SuperDeck cleaner and stain to complete the project.
As with any photography project, good results start with a clean and prepared surface. I started cleaning everything on deck. Then I give it a good scrub. I use SuperDeck Revive Deck and Siding Brightener to clean and wash the deck. This formula is intended for use on fresh or untreated cedar, redwood or pressure treated wood.
I got help with this part of the project because you have to be careful not to let the product dry on the wood when applying. Naomi and I worked on a small section, mopping up the water and using SuperDeck Revive with a pump sprayer.
Deck Staining Marietta, Ga
After applying, he used a floor brush to sweep the area. Then leave it for about 10 minutes and rinse it with a hose under high pressure.
Once we got the hang of it, things went really fast. After the polish was cleaned off, we let it dry overnight. In the morning the tree was new and refreshed and revived….it was like new!
After the deck is washed and ready for stain, I go through it and sweep it again and press it against a deck-friendly casing to protect the exterior paint.
Now is the time to get creative. I chose the water-based SuperDeck Outdoor Formula in a semi-solid color. When choosing a deck paint, you need to consider maintenance and how often you will need to reapply. A good rule of thumb is that the darker or lighter the transparency, the lower the maintenance. Clear coats and semi-transparent stains require more frequent maintenance and reapplication, while semi-hard or hard stains may take longer to re-apply. SuperDeck is great because you can use it on wet trees too.
Things You Can Do In Your Home Right Now To Pass Time During Covid
SuperDeck paint comes in several colors, and I chose Chestnut SW 3524. I wanted a dark brown, and when I tried to change the color a few months ago, the color was perfect. Once again I changed into a small residence
Now listen friends… Your daughter is afraid of her first stroke. He looked very scared. We’ve been saving up for a long time to build a deck and the last thing I want to do is destroy it. This was a project that really challenged me to trust my vision and trust the process. I started by going over the stain with a short nap roller and then used a 6 inch brush to smooth the brush. Always apply in the direction of the grain.
There is a bit of a learning curve when working with Menek, as it is different from other paints I have used before. Apply it like paint and after letting it sit on the wood for a few minutes, roll/brush over the product without wiping the paint off. It took me a while to get the hang of it, but once I did, I swam. I also work against the heat, so I have to move very quickly. After the first day I realized I’d rather just use a brush and stain, so I pulled out some of my other brushes (Purdy’s FAVE!) and used them for the rest of the project.
Save me from myself when I get the crazy idea to paint the deck! When I tell you it’s so good!!! I didn’t realize how big it was until I painted the deck. By hand. It took longer than I expected due to the size and shape of the board. Also, I can only work in the mornings and evenings when it’s 90 degrees outside. I recommend starting your deck painting project in the fall or spring when the weather isn’t too hot or too cold…just make sure there’s no rain in the forecast. Don’t even bother me among yourselves. board alone.
Ernhardt Deck Refinishing
It took me a few days, but I finally finished the first layer. I want to take my time to get good results. Slowly I could see the vision coming together.
The good thing about SuperDeck stains in water-based formulas is that they allow for quick drying and recoating. After only 4 hours you can use an additional layer and you will have applied two semi-hard layers
