How To Read Floor Plans: 8 Key Elements To Read A Floor Plan
One of our most popular styles of home improvement projects is working with homes in Cape Cod. Cape Cod-style homes located throughout New Jersey are the perfect foundation for building larger homes. for growing families
Notice the floor plan in the BASEMENT above. This is a typical cape about 30 feet wide and 24 feet front to back. The original staircase was located in the center on the left side. And not a good location considering the new single storey addition. as you can see The floor plan shows the movement of the stairs towards the front door. The basement stairs and the stairs to the second floor were moved inside the front door.
At the back of the house We are adding multiple 12 foot levels to the back of this entire house. The end result is an open floor plan that allows us to remove the entire existing back wall of this house. It has an open plan kitchen and family room.
Since we have the basement shown above. This house therefore has a finished basement. We will also be dismantling for major renovations. Most of this basement will be used as family living space. We balance it out with storage and dressing room. including a newly relocated laundry room
Add A Floor With A Second Story Addition
In this basement before we renovate the whole house We had to install a new base structure and move the toilet pipes under the floor. This basement also has a French drain around the perimeter of the basement leading to a dual sump pump.
If you own a home in Cape Cod and want to add a new story, level it up, we can offer a custom plan to suit your family’s needs.
Above is an example of a recent Cape Cod home conversion we completed in Bergenfield. New Jersey This entire house has been completely renovated. The original structure has 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom. After the conversion, there are 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and a laundry room on the second floor.
Upstairs you will see a new layout consisting of 3 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms and a laundry room. Note that the fireplace opens on two levels, a great floor plan that this young New Jersey family will enjoy for years to come.

Or just go to our website and click the “Ask Dave” tab at the top of the page. Last year we bought a beautiful ski cabin in the woods. Through my dreamy eyes it is full of charm Modern simplicity and potential, but in reality it’s a moldy and poorly designed 35 year old house.
We bought a 1,350 square foot home knowing it would be the best solution and started renovating as soon as we moved in. Because I am an architect So I started from how we can fix the house design to make it work better. There are uncomfortable and useless places all over the house. This article will guide you through existing floor plans and how I changed them to make them more fluid and functional. I’ll also explain how I valued a layout that would support a healthy lifestyle.

Prime Minister! I’m sharing my first glimpse of all kitchen renovations. Stay until the end to see the changes.
Two Story Floor Plans
I call this the proposed plan because we decided not to choose this option. This option is a complete change of the entire house. Ever since we found out that we had to invest a lot of money to improve things that we didn’t expect to be better. (something that will always happen in the renovation) and we know we will not be in this house for long. Decide to reduce improvements. There is no way to get all of the invested money back if we choose this option.
I want to show you this option so that you can see how it is possible if we want to invest financially and live in this house for a long time.
To greatly reduce the cost We decided to move the laundry room and dressing room on the first floor. We kept the original layout of the second floor. And re-place lighting equipment in the first-floor bathroom for better layout. We are refurbishing the basement for more flexible space and modernizing the basement laundry room.

Today is an exciting day for The White Buffalo! as promised I’m going to take you on a tour of the new addition designed last week at the Buffalo Bungalow. Even if we increase our current cabin. Yep, here’s a little preview of the fireplace progress I’m going to talk about tomorrow. But now it can be seen straight to the back of the house. The sink will be under the window you see. So you get a great view of the kitchen as soon as you walk in.
When you enter the house Remember that the dining room will be on your right as you enter the kitchen.
Yes, the boss now has a vaulted ceiling! Remember how I mentioned our plans to jump over the huge ceilings in the living room and kitchen? When we planned this with the contractor Travis, he asked if we needed a vault in these areas. He said that building this way would not cost extra money. But it will make you feel bigger and more charming.
Those basements might just be plaster for now. Even if we want to install a beautiful white plank ceiling, etc.
