We take a closer look at four factors to consider when choosing a white exterior color. However, a general rule of thumb to help you is that shaded houses go well with bright whites. Houses with direct sunlight will develop a creamy shade.
White Paints We Love To Work With For Your Perfect Home
First, identify the underlying white color you have in mind. All paint colors have primers that go back to their base colors.
White paint is especially difficult because it’s tones. The best way to determine what your exterior white is like underneath is to place a paint swatch on a sheet of white computer paper.
Stark whites are often considered the best outdoor whites because cool colors are associated with natural colors.
The third factor is natural light. If the exterior of your home is in a lot of shade, the paint color you choose will look different than in full sun.

How many times have you bought paint at the paint store, only to come home with a completely different color? This is the reason for the lighting!
Most paint stores have fluorescent lights that produce completely different colors than natural light. That way, the color at the paint store won’t match the exterior color of the house.

When I painted the outside of our house, I bought samples from a different paint company. Our colors were completely different! Each store’s machines have a different calibration that can slightly alter the color results.

So get samples where you can buy the paint. Next, paint some of your exterior designs and see how they all look in different lighting.
Check them out throughout the day. They appear differently at sunrise, noon, and sunset due to changes in solar intensity.
White paint is very versatile when it comes to color coordination. However, you can still look for colors that match your appearance. Roof, siding, and door colors all play a role in how the final color looks.
As you can see above, the white exterior of our shed is accented by the accent color of the door.

As far as exterior paint colors go, white isn’t the best. However, it is classic, fresh, timeless and will make a stunning centerpiece for your home.
White creates a great backdrop for other accent colors to shine through. It’s a great way to highlight landscaping, brick, or other architectural elements.
For example, we have been operating a windmill right here for three years. After painting the barn white, most of our friends and family have seen it! They never saw it because it was mixed with the previous color.

When I set out to choose the best exterior white paint for a barn, I found a few beautiful white paints on the run. After some thought, I decided to go with the new bright white.
In my opinion, the best white paint for a home (or outbuilding) exterior: Snowbound by Sherwin Williams.
I would consider this the best white for outdoor decor! It is a light grayish white color. You can see how I used it on my outdoor deck in this post.
Definitely the best white for me. This does not mean that white is best for everyone. So, I wanted to share nine other acts that could be great choices for your home exterior.
The House Has Been Painted!
Exterior paint is more exposed to the sun. A bright, clean white can be great for a home’s exterior because white reflects light.
Pure white paint works well to brighten up a room, but it can look overwhelming outside. I would go with one of the more subtle colors below.
Note: When I say “pure white” I mean true, bright, crisp white. By pure white I don’t mean the color of the paint.
Cass Makes Home painted the house in Swiss Coffee Behr. Swiss coffee is white in color and slightly creamy.
Our Modern Farmhouse Exterior Paint Refresh And The White Paint We Chose
Benjamin Moore used a white dove to drive a spire. White Dove is a soft creamy white. It has a yellow hue that has a warm feel without losing its crispness.

Jenna Sue Designs chose Oyster White by Sherwin Williams. Oyster White is a very warm white with a light gray undertone. I love how soft it is and how it pops with the black and wood accents.
The white farmhouse color matched his house in a color called Canvas (C2 paint Milk Mustache C2-692). It’s a soft white that’s modern with a subtle warmth.
Choosing A White Exterior Paint Color
Fox Family used Ultra White by Den Cabot. Ultra White is a solid white exterior wood stain that resists paint.
Jess Sherwin Williams of Karkaba Road used Pure White as a rental. Pure White is, as the name suggests, a soft white with an almost creamy undertone.
Sherwin Williams used Nuance for the balcony brick in Tuesday’s room and it’s amazing! Soft but still fresh and modern.
Tiffany of Gowler Homes used Chantilly lace by Benjamin Moore. I love how crisp this white is, especially against the white brick and wood accents.
Sherwin Williams Front Door Colors
Finally, Katie from Halfway Holistic used Bird’s Whisper White for the entrance makeup. Whisper White is a warm ivory white. Works well with warm wood tones.
