When it comes to cream paint colors, there’s nothing quite like Sherwin Williams Antique White. The thing is, like the wall color, it’s beautiful, but it’s often used for kitchen cabinets or trim, and that’s where the problem begins.

BTW, most of my color reviews aren’t that difficult, but Antique White is a pretty boy.

To show you real, reliable homes, I only use my clients’ photos for online color consultations. This means that we don’t always have the quality or variety of photos we need, but there is definitely some very useful information to help you on your way!

It’s actually a yellow shade with the addition of a neutral base to set it up. Besides this neutral base, it can take on shades of orange, red (red), or even green—we’ll see which in vintage white lately.

If you have a north-facing room, classic white can be a great way to balance out some cool natural light (it also works well in east-facing rooms). If your room faces south or has a sunny westerly afternoon, classic white will depend more on its warmth, regardless of excessive daylight.

Antique cream has an LRV of 72, which can be a good depth for your walls if you want a slightly more creamy body than other popular cream colors. However, it is not deep and looks heavy or old.

On the other hand, LRV’s classic white is one reason it’s not a go-to color or cabinet color. The average LRV for decorating paint and cabinetry is 82-94. With an LRV of 72, you’re looking at swinging colors that are far from white and in the “light” range. Antique White certainly has more flesh on the bone than white or off-white paint colors, and

1. As a cabinet or trim color, he prefers colors that are at least a tone or two darker, which is usually darker than what people want to go when they’re painting more rooms or updating cream cabinets or more. Colors

Classic white cabinets (or trim) don’t want to be partnered with solid or lighter colors.

2. The depth of classic white makes it richer and warmer than standard trim/cabinet colors, which limits the types of colors you’ll want to use (especially for cool ones), which we’ll get to shortly. Will do

The 3 Whites And Off Whites I Would Never Paint My Trim Or Cabinets

The following photo shows classic white trim work on a kitchen island. Although it pairs well with fireplaces, it’s creamier than travertine floors (limestone usually has an orange-red shade). I mean, the formula is good, but it’s a bit too strong.

In the example above, an E-Design client was already looking for a new wall color and didn’t want to change the trim (which makes sense when going through the whole house). I made some new wall color options as well as some suggestions for the kitchen island, at least to reduce the amount of antiquity in this area.

Not sure what an LRV is? It could save your paint-loving life — read all about it here.

Antique White is a cream paint color that centers around the yellow under/base. Some creams may be slightly yellow-orange or yellow-green. Classic white leans slightly towards yellow-orange, but not by much.

In the next photo, you can see the power of antique white in these painted cabinets. My client hired me to find a new cabinet color because the antique white cabinets clashed with the shade of the travertine tile backsplash (again, the travertine is orange-pink, not yellow).

It depends on your point of view. Antique white will definitely look yellow with yellow, but whether you personally find it too strong is up to you. According to an online color consultant, the yellow boost of antique white makes it difficult as trim or cabinet color.

Some cream paint colors have a strong neutral base. The more neutral the color is, the more relaxed it is, and the antique white has a more pop of color which I like.

Here is another beautiful kitchen with whitewashed antique cabinets. Generally, they read like cream, but there are those who will see yellow highlights, especially if you compare the travertine cabinets to the backsplash.

If you want to tone down the yellow in your garden or antique white wardrobe, you could put in a black or gray mirror, but that doesn’t mean you’ll have more flexibility. The bright look is also 2000s. If you like the look and don’t plan on selling, I’d say ER! However, if resale is a consideration, I would reconsider glazing.

Remember, your cabinets are yellow–you can’t make them look yellow.

I highly recommend SAMPLIZE. The sampler is a peel and stick paint sampler that you can easily take home for less than half the cost of traditional sample containers – and delivered to your door!

With the warmth level of classic white, it is best to pair it with a white that has a good amount of warmth rather than a clean or cool white.

BTW, Alabaster has many different whites if you want to change your wall color in the future – Dover White is limited.

If you’re looking for a cream paint color for your exterior that has a fair amount of yellow, while still being “neutral,” Antique White can be a good choice.

Good question! Although each paint color will have its own LRV and lower, here are some colors to sample using antique white…

Warmer paint colors will help soften the classic white pattern because they will blend in a bit more. Warm colors include cream, beige, and brown.

The cooler paint colors will accentuate the antique white and increase the warmth/yellow, making it look a bit stronger. Cool colors include gray (with undertones), blue, green, and purple. It also includes gray, although it is considered a warm paint color.

Another helpful tip is to look for colors with an LRV of around 50 or less. There are quite a few simple colors that will work (besides beige/cream which has similar undertones to classic white).

So, with that information in your back pocket, look at some of the different colors below, knowing that not every color will work in these families.
