Simply put, gray + gray = gray. If you like grays but like them harsh (those dark blue/purple/green tones!) then this is probably the best choice for you.
Best Light Greige Paint Colors Benjamin Moore
Gray paint colors are very popular for interiors because of their versatility and ability to work with many color schemes. They are, in my opinion, the perfect neutral to work in any home.
Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Gray (baby Fawn): Paint Color Review
Since gray colors are gray with gray/grey undertones, they work well in bright and cool spaces. They heat cold places very well, from northern light and preheat (I’m talking about southern temperatures but also places with lots of wood shade).
Of course, it is still important to understand the characteristics of each color, because some will suit your personal situation better than others. Always consider how your room is and how much light it gets and some elements in the room (eg lots of dark wood) that can affect the color (reflection) of the walls.
So with that being said, I’m breaking down the most commonly seen light gray and mid gray colors to help you make your decision.
As more and more people move away from the cool gray that was in fashion a decade ago, gray is the current trend. Even if warm tans and bags become “it” for the interior, gray will always have its place because these are colors that go well with different home styles and decoration styles.

I will link to your LRV numbers soon when I talk about these paint colors. This number ranges from 0 to 100, with 0 being pure black and 100 being pure white. This will help you know how dark or light the color of the paint is.
Avoid store-bought paint chips that are a false representation of the actual paint color. Don’t clutter your home with a million messy paint swatches. Instead, order my favorite skin color samples (real color!) from Samplize.com. Order today and get it tomorrow!
Benjamin Moore’s River Peter has been the most popular gray color for many years. Personally, I’ve always found it a little dark and muddy, especially in dimly lit rooms, but it’s one of those colors that looks great on an entire wall if you’ve just painted a swatch.
Classic gray is a beautiful color that will brighten and warm any space. This is one of my favorite grays and I recommend it again and again.
How Greige Colors Compare To Each Other
Depending on the lighting, it can look too gray or too warm, like most grays in this category. In a room with very warm lighting, the color of the pig will be more pronounced.
Dare I say perfect grey? Edgecomb gray is light enough to feel airy, but still has enough saturation to make the trim pop.
In my opinion, Acceptable Gray is one of the cleanest gray paint colors with virtually no unwanted undertones. That’s why color harmonizes with almost everything.
It’s a light gray, light enough to not overpower the room, but still contrasts well enough with the white trim. A really great choice for a light and airy/beachy/cool feel.
The Perfect Shades Of Greige
Not only does an understated gray make a great wall color (or whole house color), but it also looks amazing on the cabinets.
Balboa is a beautiful shade of gray that looks especially good in bright rooms with crisp white trim.
It has an LRV of 62, which makes it nice and bright, but still with enough saturation that it doesn’t look washed out. Balboa Mist has a slight rose tint to it, but it’s really subtle and less noticeable, but it helps add a nice warmth.
Pale oak is another popular light gray color, but it’s not a home color because of its many shades. In the right light, it’s a pretty cool Greg. In the wrong light, it can flash its pinkish-purple colors which can be very noticeable and undesirable.
Best Greige Paint Colors
Pale Oak has a 70 LRV, so it might look a little washed out in a very bright room, but it’s the perfect range for a bright and airy look in dimly lit spaces.
Frosted ice has become increasingly popular in recent years, but is not as versatile as other gray colors due to its pink color.
I personally tried this color twice, once for my kitchen remodel and once for my bathroom remodel, and both times I couldn’t get over the purple tones. However, I have seen it in other places and love the fresh look it brings to the room.
Drift of Mist has an LRV of 69, giving it a beautiful bright white color. It has a slightly greenish tint, similar to repose grey, but can be more pronounced.

In my house, the green color is almost like a pastel green, but it is less obvious along the wall when the paint colors are next to each other.
I love this color especially with a coastal palette full of blues, greens and whites that also appeal to natural wood tones. I think this is where it really shines and brings a very soft relaxed look to the space.
Anne Gray is a short warm gray that is exposed to warm afternoon light in a south or west facing room. In dark rooms or cold lighting, it will lean more towards gray.
The new gray has an LRV of 47, making it a medium deep color. I generally prefer colors above LRV 60 to keep that light and airy feel.

That said, if you’re looking for more depth of color for a particular room, perhaps a dining room or office, or if you want to pair it with a half-panel wall, this is perfect for you.
Compared to the new gray above, you can definitely see that Repose Gray is actually much closer to gray and not technically gray. But, it’s a really nice warm brown. Because it is so popular and works well in any show, I decided to put it here.
I have used it all over the house and I love it. Here in my kitchen it definitely looks gray, but in darker spaces, the warm tones really pop so it never looks cold.
Repose Gray has an LRV of 58 and, depending on the lighting, has green and purple undertones. Often, you’ll see green in the shadows while passive purple may show up better in bright areas.
What Is Greige?
If you find that Repose Gray works for you but isn’t as light and airy as you’d like, consider mixing it down to 50% strength. Although I originally painted my entire main floor gray, it has since been 50% repainted and is now my favorite paint color of all time.
A wonderfully warm and versatile brown. I used Colonnade Gray in our yard last summer and immediately fell in love. It’s a wonderful color for a dark room, and really pops against the white trim.
First decide if you want a light, bright color or a more saturated shade. Search for colors online and narrow down your choices to three or four options.
Put the paint swatches on a large foam board so you can move them around your room and watch the color change over the course of the day. You look for any strange signs that may be evident in the room.

Fortunately, with a gray color it should be very little because the dominant tone should be grey/grey.
The gray color pairs beautifully with the crisp white finish to add contrast. However, the beauty of gray is that it really works with everything. If you have very warm woods or bright colors, you will find the perfect shade of gray for you.
The beauty of gray paint colors is that they work with so many colors! Here are some ideas for color schemes that work well.
Don’t forget that many stores can match your favorite colors with other brands. I usually do this at Sheeran Williams because the Benjamin Moore store is a long way for me.

Home Depot and Lowe’s will also do this for you. They can look it up on your computer and mix the color for you! Lou now sells HGTV by Sherry Williams and I have used that paint and can’t tell the difference between the larger version and the “real” SW version! Exterior paint sold at Home Depot is also of good quality.
