Revere Pewter Paint Color Sherwin Williams – I love picking out paint colors – fan decks, paint stores, paint samples. I love everything! I’m going to be doing a house tour over the summer (see the post how these paint colors look in each room) and I thought a paint tour would be a fun way to start. So I’m excited to share this and some helpful tips for those of you who request specific colors in the rooms of my home.
All the paint colors I use in our house are Benjamin Moore – I use VOC free paint and only flat paint throughout the house. Do you want to know how to clean the walls? It’s easier than you think!

When we moved into our house 11 years ago, I removed all the paint before moving in, but guess what? The colors I chose look terrible in our new home. It hit the carpet, was too beige and didn’t work. The carpet that arrived at our home was not our first choice, but it was almost new and we stuck with it because we had other important things to do. We mixed the carpet with our paint of choice and it looks great.
Rhubarb & Linen: Paint Colors
We chose neutrals for the main color throughout the house and grays and beiges – if we had greys, we went for neutrals and we came up with a beautiful raver pewter.
We’ve used it throughout our house – it’s perfectly cool and warm and a great contrast to the white woodwork. We removed the original carpet and flooring on the first floor in January of this year (2020) and I prefer the Revere Pewter on the new flooring. At first we thought we’d have to paint if the color didn’t mesh, but it’s still the perfect grease.
The living room and dining room have a chair rail – we painted the underside Galveston Gray (2 shades darker than Revere Pewter).
My powder room and office are round on the first floor – they are the same but different colors.
Revere Pewter Color Palette & Review Plus Best Uses
There was a process upstairs and all the bedrooms were repainted at least once as we had a baby at the time, changing rooms and turning the craft room bathroom into a TV/hangout area for the older kids. I have also painted the laundry room several times but I went back to my favorite white – Simply White. Revere Pewter is one of those colors that has been iconic for years. It is similar to Sherwin-Williams’ popular Agreeable Gray. But actually, it’s even better! It’s crisp and clean, although it’s darker than Agreeable Grey.
Revere Pewter (HC-172) is also known as Ice Formations (973). Not realizing that we actually chose Ice Formations for the client project featured in this post is an alternate name for Revere Pewter!
This paint color works best in a room with lots of natural or artificial light. It can look a little dull in cold light, like many dark grays.

BM Revere Pewter has an LRV of 55, making it a medium gray. Being over 50 years old, it is still considered reflective. It’s light enough to use in any room of the house, but it’s also very pigmented. As a warm grease, it won’t look washed out in bright sunlight – and looks really good in well-lit rooms.
Revere Pewter has a bright green color. It doesn’t have the rich colors you sometimes see in Agreeable Grey, with greens with purple highlights.
As with many shades of gray, the undertones of Revere Pewter are not always obvious unless placed next to grays with different undertones.
Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter A Versatile Hue
You can see how River Pewter (green tone) compares to Stonington Gray (blue tone) and Collingwood (purple tone) in the graphic below.
Revere Pewter is a warm gray, thanks to its green background. It looks great in rooms with warm lighting and pairs well with clean white paint or white trim.

You can use Revere Pewter as an interior color and wrap the entire room in this warm gray. But Revere Pewter definitely looks best when used with contrasting white trim.

The Revere Pewter cabinets are gorgeous! This is a great option if you want a light and bright kitchen but don’t want to go with traditional white cabinets. Revere Pewter would also look great as a lower cabinet color in a Tuxedo kitchen design.
In this client’s color consulting kitchen, Revere Pewter paint keeps the space fresh and updated while adding warmth and keeping the cabinets from looking too stark against the floor finish.
The color blends well with the classic design elements of this home’s kitchen, which combines a more modern white tile backsplash with a warm granite countertop and tile floor.
Yes, Revere Pewter is a fantastic living room paint color! For this client’s living room, they wanted a color that would complement their beautiful stone fireplace. BM Revere Pewter fits the bill perfectly.

The Revere Pewter bedroom is gorgeous! In the client’s bedroom shown below, this color looks warm and inviting despite the low lighting and more shadows in the room when using this color.
When we were looking for color for this unique room we came across Benjamin Moore Ice Formations (973). We didn’t realize until later that it was the same color as Revere Pewter, but it works really well in this space.

Revere Pewter can serve as the perfect foundation for an entire home color palette. This light warm gray can be the base wall color throughout the house or just in one room.
In this client’s home, we used Revere Pewter walls with Revere Pewter cabinets in the room next to the kitchen to tie the two spaces together. In an open concept home like this, this is a fantastic neutral color to use in a living space.
Yes you can! Revere Pewter would be a great full-time exterior color for homeowners who want a bright exterior but don’t want to risk using a white exterior color that looks too bright in direct sunlight.
Best Warm Gray Paint Colors
But remember – if you have a lot of green leaves around your house, they can bring out the green background of the Revere Pewter and make your house look greener than you think.
Avoid BM Revere Pewter in rooms with very cold or dim lighting. This color is so dark that it can look a bit dark in this type of space. It really needs a lot of light (natural or artificial) to show its full potential on a wall.
Avoid honoring pewter in the same room with purplish grays like Collingwood, Repose Gray and Balboa Mist. They may be in adjoining rooms.
Revere Pewter is a beautiful neutral paint color that pairs well with many other colors and finishes. It looks great with green undertones like Manchester Tan.

Revere Pewter looks amazing with dark blues and teals, like the chairs in the photo below, because of its warm green color.
We especially like deep blue raver pewters like BM Polo Blue, an almost black navy blue with hints of warm teal. It also looks good with mid-tone teals like BM Mount St. Anne, which is a gorgeous muted blue.
