There are a lot of tech stuff you can get your hands on that you won’t need to start with, like cleaners, polish, and special tools. Most brands offer artist starter kits that provide you with a brush and some paint to get you started. Some of these kits include extras such as miniatures or basic tools.
I recommend starting with brush strokes. There is also airbrushing, but it takes some time to master this technique. Additionally, airbrush paint is often more expensive and good-priced starter kits are rarely available. Never use an airbrush to paint by hand. It is very thin and does not provide good coverage when applied with a brush.

Also, miniatures should be cleaned and primed before painting. Unfortunately, there are no primer starter kits. There are two types of primers: brush primers and spray primers. In general, I recommend starting with a white primer for light color palettes and a black primer for darker palettes. So you may only need a couple of colors at first rather than the whole lot. I also recommend starting with a spray primer as the primer can be applied with a brush for nice, sheer coverage.
As mentioned above, there are many different brands of paint for the miniature hobby. The paint comes in different containers, such as dropper bottles or containers. If you’re just starting out, you might want your blue, red, and yellow ensemble. It should also give you black and white to lighten or darken your colors. This set provides you with good value and basic colour. I’m not the biggest fan of the Arm Painter, but a lot of people love them and they’re good for beginners. Most of their starting combos are “[Faction] + Paint” combos. So they have three divisions for a particular faction and six colors to go with them.
My personal favorite gear is from Citadel. This is “Warhammer 40,000 or Age of Sigmar: Paints + Weapons Pack”. I recommend this to everyone, even if you don’t plan on getting more Citadel colors or if you don’t want to paint Warhammer minis.

In my opinion, this bundle is the best value pack you can get from the starter packages. A big plus for me in the 40k version: One of the colors is Averland Sunset. This is one of the few yellow pigments that provides good coverage of light colour. I use this color to prep and paint the light/yellow spots on the miniature
