Battleship Grey Paint Sherwin Williams – Looking for the perfect dark gray for cabinets, walls or exterior? You have come to the right blog! Today we explore the dark side of things with Sherwin Williams’ most popular charcoal colors. But before we get started, we need to talk a little (as usual).
Warm grays can have purple or green undertones, while cool grays can have BLUE, purple, or green (often a mix). If you want to learn more, I highly recommend you READ THIS.

And while these shades are often passive on the lighter side of things, they don’t hide so well when we hit the dark side. This means there are often fewer nice “neutral” options to choose from if you’re one of those people who wants to see as few human tones as possible.

Remember, you can’t completely avoid shades, so you should choose the one that best suits your home decor!

With an LRV of 26, the Pigeontail isn’t one of the DARKest greys, but it still has good leg meat (or the tail feathers might be more important).
Dovetail has a passive warmth to it, and you’d be hard-pressed to ever see it flash like a traditional cool gray. It also has some very subtle tones which you can read about in its full color review.

If you ask me, a color called “Classic Grey” should have a purple undertone, don’t you think? Or is it just me who has a strange psychic connection to something from my childhood? In every moment. Sherwin Williams Classic French Gray has a very subtle green tint (flashes slightly green-blue in some lights). However, it is so passive that I consider it one of the MOST NEUTRAL dark grays, knowing that all grays actually have undertones.
If you are a fan of DARK End of things, welcome to the club. Not only do I have gorgeous Urbane bronze in my house, but I also have Roycroft Tin – and NOT just inside, but outside too!
When we bought our house it wasn’t bad… it just wasn’t great (look how the sun had turned our almond shaped windows a nice shade of yellow-green…
THEN, with a little KLC, Roycroft Pewter plays on the blue tones of the K2 slate and gives our home much more presence…
Awesome Cool Gray Paint Shades From Sherwin Williams
Roycroft Pewter has a bit more tone than the average dark gray, but it doesn’t get into the colorful end of things. While feeding the blue tuna, he dips his pedicured feet in the green quite nicely. With an LRV of 13, Roycroft Pewter is definitely on the very dark side.

Give me some Grizzle for the shizzle! Sorry, just channeling my inner gangster. Grizzle Gray has an LRV of 13, which means it has some good meat on its bones, but it will never look black. And if you ask me, while Benjamin Moore Amherst Gray is known for its green tone, Grizzle Gray puts it to SHAME with a more visible green and a slightly cooler ambience.
I’m throwing down the gauntlet with THIS gray. However, even with LRV 17, Gauntlet Gray is not the darkest charcoal gray, but it certainly has a strong depth.

When it comes to shades, it’s hard to beat Westchester Gray’s subtle approach. That’s not to say it’s completely neutral, but it’s not as committed as some of the other dark colors on this page.
The sun is fading this photo a bit, but I appreciate all the photos my customers send to e-design!
While Westchester Gray can see a slight blue glow, a touch of green, it is partial and better and with the right exposure, indoor lighting, environment, it can rock a bit with other cool tones.
Color Matching Our Kitchen Cabinets (+painting Tips)
If you choose Peppercorn, you’re in for a ride of wild tones. Not that it’s overwhelming by any means, it’s just RIGHT. Like the color above it on the fan deck, Grizzle Gray, Peppercorn has a green tint. But given the right situation, don’t be surprised to see the green fall back to be replaced by a splash of blue-purple hues!

Peppercorn has an LRV of 10, so it definitely has depth, more so than many of the colors on this page. However, it is not so dark that it leans towards the dark side of things. As I receive more photos from my E-Design customers showing this color, I will add them. Until…
I love Web Grey. LRV i 13 is a good way to make an impact on a kitchen island, doors or partition walls, but is not so dark as to weigh down a space. But when it comes to undertones, it’s mean!
Currently Repainting Our House. Have We Gone Too Dark With This Gray?
Web Gray prefers a blue tone, no doubt. However, given the situation, it can lean either blue-purple or blue-green. For example, put it in a more intense purple tone like Sherwin Williams Wall Street and you will REALLY see the green in there. But then put it next to Grizzle Gray green and it looks more blue-purple again. COMPARISON IS KEY.

Behr Color Trends 2020
These 200 new colors are exclusive to the Emerald Designer Edition color and cannot be used with other Sherwin Williams colors. The reason for this is that the Emerald Designer color range is formulated with a completely different “UltraWhite Base” so if you were to request these exclusive colors for other SW colors you would not get the same color because the other white bases are completely different.
Sherwin Williams noted in the press release for the new collection that the new colors were based on requests from interior designers who want brighter, more complex whites.
