The Best Front Door Paint Colors — Liven Design

The door color I chose was Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore. It’s a nice gray paint color that’s not too gray and not too beige. I actually got the color from Home Depot as I always use the Behr Marquis set. My Home Depot has the Ben Moore formula on file – not sure if it applies to all stores, but it makes the process a lot easier. Just ask at the paint office!

If you want a similar color comparison, I’ve also heard good things about Pleasant Gray by Sherwin Williams. The colors look very close together online, with Revere Pewter being the cooler shade and Accessible Beige being slightly warmer.

Now I’m going to share the method I used to paint the interior doors! I am by no means a professional or an expert, but I hope this is useful for you.

You can paint your door with oil-based or latex paint. Use a cotton ball or cloth with some isopropyl alcohol and rub it on the pore. If the paint runs, it means you are working with latex paint, which makes things easier. If the paint does not come off, it means it has oil and you will need to take extra steps. Our house is only a few years old and the current paint is latex.

Black Doors White Trim: A Striking Look For Interior & Exterior

If your interior doors were painted before the 1980s, the existing paint may contain lead. If possible, contact a professional to ensure your safety.

Use a clean sponge or microfiber cloth with a little soap to wash the door, then clean it again with water. This will remove dirt and oil and help the new paint adhere.

Then lightly sand the door. I skipped this step with the front door and it didn’t hold up as well as the pantry door, even though we rarely use it. So I recommend sanding! I used a block of 220 sandpaper.

Finally, use a damp cloth to remove all dust from the door and a damp cloth to clean the floor if necessary.

The pictures above show how I covered the door hinges. You can carefully use a knife to cut the hinges. In this case I taped the door handle, but you can remove the door handle if you prefer.

If you are painting one side of the door, tape the trim piece that stops when the door is closed. This is where you want to stop the new color.

Place a cloth to protect the floor. Use a toothpick to mix the paint. If your paint is old (mine was a few months old) you will need to mix it really well, make sure you scrape the bottom of the can. Place one of the plastic liners in a metallic paint tray and pour some paint.

If you are painting door trim, start with a brush. Carefully paint around the hinges, being careful not to drip paint while doing this detail work. We will make another coat later if necessary.

Then use the brush around the door panel and on the cutouts on the sides of the door.

Finally, use a small roller on the panels and the rest of the door (rails, beams and posts). Basically you use the roller on all flat and raised parts of the door!

After you let the paint dry, sand lightly with a fine sandpaper block (I used 220) and apply another coat. If you’re using Behr’s Marquee range like I am, you probably won’t need a full second coat, as the paint covers well.

You will see that I need to do some finishing touches! It was a challenge to stick and paint the finish so close to the wall, and I wasn’t as careful as I should have been. Yes good! Tomorrow I will get my wall painting (Behr’s Polar Bear) and fix it. This is the beauty of DIY painting – mistakes are usually easy to correct 🙂

How To Paint Doors And Make Them Durable

I’m really happy with the beautiful green doors and how they warm up our space and enhance the look. I’m working on a new gallery around the Nest Thermostat to share soon. (Update: Here’s how I decorated our thermostat.)

Simply White is definitely one of the most popular warm white paint colors today and it’s no wonder. Whether it’s walls, trim, exterior, cabinets, doors or ceilings – you name it, Simply White has it covered.

In fact, I have many e-design clients who hope to use Simply White on their cabinets, walls or trim. And while it is a beauty, it is not as simple as it sounds and there are many things to consider if you are considering using it in your own home…

What color is Benjamin Moore Simply White? Is it warm or cold white?

Simply White is a warm and subtle but very important white color, which we will talk about shortly.

If you have afternoon sun in the south or west, you may find that the angle of Simply White is slightly warmer and has a more yellow tone. Simply White can have more passive warmth if you have a north-facing or flat light and the colors are generally brighter, but you need good interior lighting to bring it to life.

Simply White has an LRV of 91.7. If you don’t know what LRV is, I recommend you read this – it can make your paint selection easier! This high LRV puts the Simply White wine in the white category, but it is not one of the whitest whites.

This is where you need to be careful. Only white may appear too white, but it is yellow and relatively clean (not too black/grey). That means yellow can appear when you least expect it—like when you pair it with a cool-toned marble or white subway tile backsplash.

You will undoubtedly be out collecting paint samples in the near future – hang in there! I want you to look at SAMPLIZE. Sampleize offers peel and stick paint samples that are cheaper, easier and more environmentally friendly than traditional paint pots. Here are a few reasons why I recommend Sampleize to my clients…

A white look is the perfect choice for a warm and bright kitchen! However, if you are a stickler for matching white, you may find it too warm for traditional white/grey marble (countertops or backsplashes) or white appliances. It is also too hot for most white base quartz countertops.

When choosing the right white for trim and ceiling, it can be difficult to know which will be best for both. Well, stop the smoke coming out of your ears and check out Simply White, because in the absence of True White, it acts like white – without looking stark or cold. I’m also a FIM believer in uniform white on the trim, roof and doors to keep the tone consistent.

Should Doors Be Painted The Same Color As Walls? |

By the way, if you have Simply White in your finish and are wondering what white color to use on your walls, I highly recommend … Simply White. When it comes to white, I prefer repetition so you don’t have to worry about a mix and match look.

It might be, but if you have a white window, you will see that yellow note in Simply White when the two are facing each other. Just white would look better with black windows or I would choose a different white paint color.

You will never get the same look when it comes to matching paint colors – there will always be changes in hue, depth and temperature. Most of the time I can find colors that are very similar, however, nothing on Sherwin Williams really compares…
