Step 1: Flat Surface and Drying Space A flat paint surface is key to refinishing kitchen cabinets. Remove all drawings and doors, and don’t forget to remove any hardware. So find a place that gives you enough space to work, and enough space for everything to dry for a while.

Step 2: Prepare! get ready! get ready! The first rule of cabinet repainting: Make sure the cabinets and doors are clean and dry. Use a mild degreaser and a damp sponge to clean, then let everything dry thoroughly. Once you’re done cleaning, it’s time to break things! Most cabinet wood is too smooth or glossy to sand and repaint, so use medium-grit sandpaper (we like 100 to 150 grit) and sand the surface slightly smooth, not enough to give a finished finish, but enough to give it a good finish. The primer needs more grit to attack. Wipe away dust with a slightly damp cloth and allow to dry.
Step 3: Protect your surroundings When painting, be sure to place drop cloths or other protective devices on the counter and surrounding work area.
Step 4: Prep for Primer A quality primer sets the stage for a successful painting job. Fresh Start High Coverage All Purpose Primer is a favorite among professional painters. This acrylic primer provides maximum hiding, sealing and protection against stains, as well as a mildew-resistant coating on wood and other surfaces. If your kitchen cabinets are darker, you’re in luck: Starting over is the first priority when making a dramatic paint color change. Do not use paint-based primers as they will inhibit ADVANCE from adhering to the cabinet surface. When you’re done, take a break: The primer must dry for at least 24 hours before continuing with step 5.
Step 5: Sand again Once the primer is completely dry (at least 24 hours in a well-ventilated area), it’s time to sand again. Use 220-grit sandpaper or a sanding block to lightly sand all surfaces, paying special attention to areas that may have drips or puddles (for example: inside corners and anywhere two flat areas meet). Make sure the surface is as flat as possible—this will ensure your paint will adhere well. Wipe away dust with a slightly damp cloth and allow to dry.

Step 6: It’s time to paint! Apply the first coat of ADVANCE paint using a Benjamin Moore Premium Nylon/Polyester Brush. Time-saving tip: Painting cabinet doors (and similarly large spaces) can be faster if you use a foam paint roller or microfiber instead of a brush. As with primer, allow the first coat of paint to dry completely before continuing.
Step 8: Repeat step 6 for a second coat of FIGHT to give you full coverage and allow the topcoat to cure evenly. I love the look of Blueberry Hill 812 and the pop of color it brings to old white cabinets.
Step 9: Let it dry! The longer the paint takes to dry, the more durable the topcoat will be and the less likely it is to stick when reinstalled. At the very least, let the cabinets dry in a well-ventilated area for at least 24 hours, or even better, two or three days. If you want to beautify the inside of your cabinets, we have you covered. Before we talk about color, I want to share some information that I’ve discovered over the years. I hope it’s useful to someone who has never designed a kitchen.
Guys, you probably know by now that I always ask you to choose your colors in natural light.
Well, yes, you should do the same. However, the kitchen is the only room where the light is almost always on. So, you need to do both.
On top of that, you probably have some sort of overhead lighting. They can do interesting (aka: weird) things with cabinet colors. And, of course, the color of the walls.

Another thing I’ve noticed is that the upper cabinets almost always appear darker than the lower cabinets.
However, another reason is that the closer the color is to the wall, the darker it will appear; maybe not all the time, but usually. However, this is why you should pay attention to the choice of wall color and use flat colors that correspond to the wall. The worst thing is to look at the color. I know we all do. But, that’s not the color.
Generally speaking, though, if you paint everything one color, the upper cabinets will appear a single tone, while the bottom cabinets glued to the other foot will appear lighter. Moreover, the island will become brighter.
I would 100% say that, though. Well, 99% of the time, we paint the island a different color. Or, sometimes, it’s a stained wood veneer. But regardless, it might look easier in the end.

Oh, this is also very important. In most cases, I have no idea what the color actually is. When it comes to Stouffer cabinets, they are completely customizable in color.

I know you’re wondering why I chose Simply White. How about cotton balls or white pigeons? Of course, then you ask, why not just go with white? I can only choose one. They were all horribly white.
