The best painting between Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore is Benjamin Moore by a small margin. Benjamin Moore paint is the best in terms of color quality, durability, coverage and ease of application. Similarly, Benjamin Moore acrylic exterior paint products like Aura are expensive, but can be worth the cost.

You can’t go wrong with Sherwin Williams or Ben Moore. In terms of pure color quality, they are almost equal. Therefore, both offer low-end, high-end, and high-end paint lines with different price points.
In short, Benjamin Moore or Sherwin paints are in a league of their own. Especially compared to Behr, Valspar or PPG paint brands.
Among professional artists, it’s like comparing Coca-Cola and Pepsi. Some people simply prefer the taste of Pepsi to Coke or vice versa. Both paint brands make high-quality paints, but some artists swear by one or the other.

But Benjamin Moore has one major weakness compared to Sherwin-Williams paint. Before we get into that, let’s talk about the price differences between Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams paints.
Benjamin Moore costs slightly more than Sherwin Williams house paint when comparing similar products. As mentioned before, both companies have different lines of interior and exterior colors such as Cashmere, Emerald or Duration. Overall, the average gallon of paint at Sherwin Williams is $53 versus $57 at Benjamin Moore.
Sherwin-Williams also offers Superpaint, which is considered by experts to be the best value for any paint. For reference, Superpaint is sold to consumers for about $48 per gallon. That’s about $30 less than Sherwin’s premium Emerald line.
In general, high-quality paint is often worth the money, but only up to a point. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of ultra-premium colors like Sherwin’s Emerald or Benjamin Moore’s Aura. Both premium paints are quite expensive, around $70 per gallon.
Colour Matching Between Paint Brands
Finally, let’s note that recently, due to the lack of paint, the prices of paint are rising. Pandemic and adverse weather conditions limit paint production possibilities. In fact, paint prices increased by 10.6% in 2021 and will rise further in 2022. However, if you’re waiting to design, scarcity may have you pulling the trigger sooner rather than later.

Herein lies the obvious weakness of Benjamin Moore compared to Sherwin Williams. Depending on where your home is located, it can be difficult to find a store that sells Benjamin Moore paints. This is because Benjamin Moore distributes its paints through independent retailers such as Ace Hardware and JCLicht hardware stores. Compare that to Sherwin-Williams, which owns and operates all of its retail stores.
Even if there is a Benjamin Moore paint store nearby, I have noticed that different independent retailers have different product lines. For example, you won’t find certain straight white lines of ceiling paint that JCLicht carries at Ace Hardware.

This alone can be the deciding factor when choosing between Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore. As a painting contractor, if I had to drive an extra 15 minutes to a Benjamin Moore dealership versus a Sherwin store, I would choose Sherwin. It’s really close when it comes to comparing two paint brands.
Whether you are a painter or a homeowner, you need to consider the proximity of a paint store. When you’re shopping for paint for any painting job, chances are you’ll need to make a few stops at the store for taps, gallons, or whatever. There’s no doubt you’ll be thankful you chose a store near you when you touch the front color.

Both Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore have a multitude of lacquer colors to choose from. As a result, there is no clear winner when it comes to colors. Considering both companies can color each other’s gear, you really can’t go wrong.
Inspiring Interior Paint Color Ideas
While every color company offers a color consultation, Sherwin’s is free, while Benjamin Moore’s color consultations average $40-$80. In addition, not all Benjamin Moore dealers offer this service. You can book a Sherwin design consultation online here. Unfortunately, a Benjamin Moore consultation can only be ordered by contacting your local store.
Moreover, Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore share formulas so they can match each other’s colors when needed. However, I recommend keeping the color selection and vendor the same whenever possible to reduce the risk of color mismatches.
Paint gloss is how shiny or glossy the paint looks when it dries. In many ways, the brightness of the color you choose is just as important as the color. This is where things can get tricky when comparing Sherwin Williams to Benjamin Moore. Each paint manufacturer has different names for glitter. Further complicating matters is that some individual paint lines have their own specific gloss classifications.
For an easier choice of gloss, contact your local paint store and ask for recommendations. For indoor spaces, we recommend only for ceilings; mat or eggshell for walls; and satin or semi-gloss for decoration. For the exterior, we recommend a plain or satin finish for decoration; and semi-gloss or gloss for trim, doors and windows.
Benjamin Moore Vs Sherwin Williams (which Paint Is Best For 2022?)
Benjamin Moore’s top color product is Regal Select. In fact, over 50% of professional painters choose Regal Select as their favorite interior wall paint. This is a high quality 100% acrylic latex paint that simply checks all the boxes. So you can’t beat the Regal for coverage, thickness and ease of application. It is also known for its durability and easy cleaning.
Like most wall paints, two coats are required, but the ability to retain color pigment is excellent compared to other comparable paints. Regal has a higher price tag of $50-$60 per gallon, but in most cases it is worth every penny. However, Regal performs better and costs $10 to $20 per gallon less than Sherwin’s comparable Cashmere product line. Benjamin Moore’s Regal is also a better paint than Sherwin’s Superpaint, but Regal is $10 to $20 more expensive per gallon.
Similarly, Regal Select is a low-noise house paint that resists mold. This makes it safer to use indoors during and after painting and reduces paint mist.
If you’re looking for a muted or muted interior wall paint, consider Benjamin Moore’s Aura paint line. It’s higher than the Regal Select, which makes the Aura $15-$25 more expensive, but it’s a thicker paint with better color coverage.

Finally, both Aura and Regal Select are formulated with Benjamin Moore’s Gennex Color technology, which allows both colors to retain more vibrant colors that last longer. This innovative technology also reduces VOCs in Regal Select and Aura paints.
You can think of Ben By Benjamin Moore as Regal Select’s little brother. As you can imagine, Ben is $20 per gallon cheaper than Regal Select. However, it performs better than other Sherwin Williams interior base colors, such as A-100.
The main difference is that the Regal Select offers better coverage and thickness than the Ben. This is due to the higher content of solids in the paint. Also, Ben’s drying time is two hours compared to Regal’s one hour.
Additionally, the Royal Choice has different finishes than the Ben. Indeed, the Ben only comes in plain, eggshell and semi-gloss, while the Regal covers all three, as well as matte and pearl.
Best Greige Paint Colors
But here’s a lesser-known fact about Benjamin Moore interior paint by Benjamin Moore. Not only is it self-priming, but Ben’s eggshell and flat glitter has almost zero VOCs. That’s why we still love using Ben Benjamin Moore for interior painting projects. Plus, Ben Sherwin Williams’ Zero VOC brand is about $30 less than Harmony.
It is a solid base color with superior performance that is better for the environment. Our professional makeup teams consider it a big win either way.
Another feature of Benjamin Moore is the Advance line of water-reducible alkyd interior paints. Advance is one of the best colors on the market for interior design, doors, windows and door coverings. It outperforms Sherwin Williams Proclassic decorative paint in almost every way and maintains a low VOC content even after painting. Not to mention it’s cheaper at $55 per gallon compared to Proclassic’s $70 per gallon.
