Best Benjamin Moore White For Exterior Trim – But first, a little background. Last spring, the roof and gutters completely blew out during a hail storm. Because of the destruction of the entire city, we did not move until spring. I had a house painter bid on another project and I asked him to look at our exterior for a bid. Our house is now ten years old and has probably had a few years of new tiles and paint. So we decided to finish it while we are already busy with other projects! Also check out my posts on White Homes with Black Window Trim and Best White Exterior Paint Colors for more on this project and inspiration!
This is what our house looked like from the outside when we first saw it almost six years ago. This is a great picture of the trees starting to lose their leaves and you can see some of the details of the house.

And this is how our house looks now from the street! In the end, we chose Benjamin Moore White Dove for a few reasons, which I’ll talk about a bit below. If you live in Omaha and need a painter, we can’t say enough good things about Ben at Nelson Brothers Painting. He even stained our fence and worked on our rental house!
Our Favorite White Paint Colors — House Sprucing
I know that at one time the big debate was whether or not to paint stone and whether tiles and wood should not be painted and given different colors. We decided not to stain the stone (that was not the original suggestion) and pay for a year to see if we needed to update it further. I was worried that the white would make the stone more obnoxious. But surprisingly, I really like the difference now! This helps your house blend in more with the street environment, as almost every house in your neighborhood is brown or gray in color.
Following the advice of many of you, we decided to paint all the wood details one color (Benjamin Moore White Dove) instead of painting it two colors as before. Since the front of our house has many different textured surfaces (asphalt, metal roofs, stone, two sizes of board and tin, and shingles), we decided this was the best way to go. And we love it!
Since we decided to leave the stones as they are, the white dove was warm enough so that it wouldn’t look “out of place” with the orange and brown stones. It’s a warm white with a slight yellow tint, but it still looks white in our house. One of the downsides of white houses is that you have to shoot in the evening if you don’t want weird shadows or blown out photos. So, remember that all this happened around 8:30 in the evening when the sun was giving a warm glow in the west. But I still love the color!
Along with the update, I bought our first new rug since we moved in five and a half years ago! I was so excited to update this space again! And I love how much nicer our entryway looks now! We’ve had these street lights for several years and still love them.

I like to see the different widths of boards and battens, and the pattern of shingles in white. I painted the shutters, front door, and garage door Benjamin Moore Iron Mountain, one of those colors that sometimes looks brown and sometimes gray. They match our window treatments well, so everything flows smoothly. You will notice that we chose to use a copper conduit system to coordinate with the windows.
The garage door was very bleached from the sun and always looked dirty. This scene is one of my favorite makeovers ever! I just love boards, battens and windows. I can’t wait until we have a big window above our air conditioner to add to the kitchen! This view is about to get better!
This installation shows more details. The outdoor lights on this side of the house were from Lowe’s a few years ago (but I think they still carry them in stores).
Now this is the view in the courtyard of my office. What is very interesting is how the white color illuminates all the neighboring rooms (office, hallway and dining room). Also, pretend you don’t see the paper towel in the dining room 😉 We were messing up our kitchen when I took this picture last night. I may have to replace the striped carpet soon as there is some damage from the roofing project. Our fire extinguisher kit came from Costco a few years ago and you can find outdoor pillows here.

We went to the back of the house. This was an area that I felt would be too bright if we went with true white. The yard faces south and is always open in the summer. Combine that with our light concrete roofs like travertine and I didn’t want them to be white. But I think dove white works well here because it’s a warm white.
This was the view from our summit shortly after we arrived five and a half years ago.
Since a white dove can have a warm yellow undertone, I wanted to make sure it wasn’t too yellow as the sun began to set each evening. There was actually some yellowing on my switches, but nothing that bothered me. This picture was taken around 8:30 pm when the sun was setting. And when you can see the heat, most of them are from the sun. I really like the warm glow!
I hope you enjoyed Benjamin Moore’s white house exterior! If you have any questions about any details or anything I’ve missed, feel free to leave a comment and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks for following this journey!
