Today’s post is an exciting one. I’m finally sharing our freshly painted interior and exterior with the best blue gray paint choices. I spent a lot of time researching the perfect blue gray color to use and I think I found a winner for our home. But since natural lighting can play such a big role in how colors look in your home, I’m sharing my other top tips with you.

The Best Blue Paint Colors For Your Home

Our front door used to be painted Benjamin Moore Hale Navy. I actually liked the color, but it felt a little dark in an area of our entryway that doesn’t get a lot of natural light. The door also loosened a bit during the kitchen renovation last summer and needed a fresh coat of paint regardless. I decided I wanted to go for a muddy blue gray with soft green undertones (compared to the purple). Something that is relaxing and calm and reminds me of the beach, but not too saturated or “baby” blue. And while I’ve used blue gray in more coastal-inspired spaces, the shade can be just as beautiful in more modern spaces.

I spent several hours doing research online and also asked many of my readers what their favorite options were. After compiling all the results, I will share the best blue gray colors. Surprisingly, no Sherwin-Williams colors were listed. I think they stand out in slightly greener versions of these colors (like Sherwin-Williams Sea Salt). Below are my top picks for the best blue gray colors.

Later in this post I’ll share real examples of how these colors look in real rooms. I’m also sharing a fun update to our entryway using my new favorite blue gray color. In early 2019, I tested three color samples on our front door. From left to right you see (all Benjamin Moore): Wedgewood Grey, Van Courtland Blue and Water’s Edge. They were all such cute options that I don’t think we could go wrong with any of them.

This time I actually used a paint sample from the Benjamin Moore store. I chose Benjamin Moore’s Water’s Edge and couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. I am also just obsessed with our striped rug. It’s indoor/outdoor and virtually indestructible. It comes in several sizes, but sometimes they are broken as individual records.

Natural light from several angles, so the color here seems a little brighter than in most rooms. It’s a great choice for a darker blue-gray, though. It’s also a very chameleon color, taking on more gray or green tones depending on the time of day and the angle of the sun.

The gorgeous cabinets in the downstairs laundry room are painted in Benjamin Moore Van Cortlandt blue, which seemed to be a favorite with our readers.

The 10 Best Paint Colours To Create Calm And Reduce Stress

As an update to this original post, I used Benjamin Moore Van Cortlandt Blue in our den earlier this year. It looks completely different in our house than it does above. But both versions are equally beautiful. Our cave faces west, so it gets a lot of warm sunlight in the morning, which makes the color a little greener. I think the upstairs laundry room doesn’t get a lot of direct natural light and that may be one of the main reasons they look different.

Perhaps the grayest of all, Benjamin Moore Boothbay Gray is a very popular choice for doors (interior and exterior) right now. This is another chameleon that looks blue in some lights and very gray in others. I actually tried swatches of this color in person and this is what it looks like

We used Behr Light French Gray in our last house and it had a really nice shade (like the color swatch one shade lighter and one shade darker). It’s a nice light toned color that looks more blue in some lights and gray in others. It creates a relaxing and cool atmosphere in any room and we loved it in our bathroom.

Best Blue Paint Colors For Interior Walls

Benjamin Moore Santorini Blue is another great blue gray paint, as shown in the living room below. It actually has an alias and is the same color as the Benjamin Moore Nantucket Fog.

We also decided to use this color in our island pool addition. It is definitely a chameleon and takes on more blue tones at times and gray at other times. Here you can see more photos at different times of the day to appreciate the color.
