After a day of painting the sides of the tree, I went to check on the progress and saw a very different color from the one I had originally chosen. The entire back of the house is finished in black.

After much discussion with the paint company and paint shop, we determined that the problem was caused by a number of factors.

It turns out that there is some problem with getting a sample color from a different brand of paint than you would use for the final product. Also, each paint shop has a different calibration for their machines. If you sample from one store and dye in another, you will receive a slightly different color.

This is why most paint companies require mixing liters of paint before painting to get the right color for a large area.

In the end, the paint company I worked for was good enough to fix the problem. They match their paint color to the base color and opt for a matte finish instead of satin.

We used Duration Exterior Acrylic Latex for our house. For our shop we used SuperPaint Exterior Acrylic Latex as it is a paint and primer in one.

It’s suitable for bold yellows and yellows, so you can use it as accents – yellow houses with black shutters is the standard.
