The 13 Most Popular Cream Paint Colours: Sherwin Williams & Benjamin Moore
We’ve been picking out a new white for our foyer and stairs this week since the flood, and for anyone struggling in the color decision department, it seems like a good time to dig in.
If you are stuck choosing the best paint color, here are the best ways to choose the perfect paint color for your home every time. But this article can serve as a good starting point in your search for the best white palette for your home.
We really like using Benjamin Moore Classic Gray in our foyer and staircase because it’s a neutral chameleon that feels light and airy with an inviting warmth that can be a little off depending on the lighting. Gray or slightly beige.
Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee is a slightly white coffee with just enough yellow color to produce a clean milky white. Pair it with dark black or gray like Benjamin Moore Wrought Iron for a striking contrast that looks elegant and calming.
Maison Blonde’s Go To White Paints
Benjamin Moore White Dove is a little lighter than Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee, but still creamy enough to feel good. Its gentle warmth can brighten the beige tones of a room, and it works well in trim and molding. We used it to tone the beige counter, we weren’t particularly fond of it in our bathroom renovation last year, but it worked great!
Sherwin Williams Alabaster is a lighter, softer white that is closer to pure white. It has just enough warmth to offset the harshness of other bright whites. If you can’t decide between white and true white, alabaster is the perfect balance. We used it in the master bedroom of our last house and loved it!
Benjamin Moore Linen White is a darker white, more yellow than the others, and works best in north-facing rooms, where the color seems a bit washed out.
Sherwin Williams Snowbound is a white with a hint of gray and is cooler than Sherwin Williams Alabaster. It is a great choice for east/west facing rooms, shutters, closets and outdoors.
The Best Exterior White Paint Colors
Sherwin Williams Oyster White is closer to gray than white and leans a little towards cooler, but it’s a chameleon color that will look warm in a darker room at different times of the day.
Sherwin Williams White Flour is closest to the yellow range and can evoke a sense of comfort. It can look especially yellow when combined with more blue/gray colors, so use it judiciously and keep an eye on other colors in the room.
Sherwin Williams Classic Light Buff is a light coat color that creates a clean, sophisticated level without the harshness of pure white. Sherwin Williams Classic Light Buff is a creamy, laid-back white that smells a little sun-kissed.
Unabashed headphones, but we’re big fans of our color, Romabio Feather, a light, airy white that oscillates between warm and cool.

White walls are all the rage these days, and for good reason. They create a neutral, bright and versatile backdrop for your space. They reflect natural light back into the room, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. But let’s face it, choosing the perfect white for your space can definitely be difficult. If you’re struggling to choose white for your home, we’ve got some professional, tried-and-true tips that can make your decision a little easier!
One of our top tips when using white paint in your home is to use the same color on the walls, ceiling and crown molding. For the trim and ceiling, we want to cut them by 50% (this creates a softer, lighter version of the original shade, while keeping the same paint and base color). When you use more than one white in a room, you run the risk of varying shades and tones, which can change the appearance of some whites (like other colors, but whites are especially noticeable). By painting everything the same white, you ensure that all the shadows and undertones are the same, allowing your whites to stand the test of time without changing its appearance. Remember, if you want contrast on your decoration or furniture, consider the same white 75% or 50%. We also light the same percentage on the ceiling as the trim.
We hope our guide to choosing the perfect white paint color helped you decide! Always, always remember to try. You may not want to spend the money, but the samples will save you from costly repainting mistakes in the long run. Test your swatches at different times of the day, in different rooms of the house, based on your trim/cabinet colors, and your floors. These will all change the look of the white paint, so make sure you consider all of them. In our opinion, you can’t try too hard! If you are considering several shades of white, paint (and cut!) them side by side in different parts of the room.

Whatever you do, don’t leave photos of a particular color you’ve seen online. All colors look different on a computer screen and are processed differently. They will look different in your home, so make sure you keep that in mind and use templates instead.
When choosing a sheen for your white paint, we generally recommend Flat or Eggshell for standard walls in a satin finish in bathrooms (except bathrooms). The ceiling we chose was Flat Paint. In milling and wood we use satin a lot. Semi-Gloss is also popular for cutting work.
