Best Paint For Brick Fireplace – Preparation is the most important part of a great painting job, so even the most boring part, don’t skip it! If you don’t clean the bricks properly, your paint won’t adhere well and will wear off over time. I cleaned mine and used a degreaser; but if yours is very dirty, you can use a wire brush to wash it first.

Paint areas where you don’t want the paint to bleed, such as adjacent walls. I also recommend duct tape under the brick where it meets the floor if possible. This will ensure that your plastic will not get any paint on the floor. Then carefully cut out the floor area – do not leave any gaps in the plastic. I always like to put plastic on the floor I work on and put paper on top of it. This ensures that nothing gets in and doesn’t damage the soil!

It is important to use a high-quality primer before painting, because it allows the rubber paint to adhere to the bricks. I used a special masonry primer by Sherwin Williams called Loxon; However, you can also use regular Kilz. To apply the primer, use a stiff brush to push the paint into the various cracks in the mortar and brick. Then use a small roller to cover the flat part of the brick. I only applied one coat of primer and followed the dry time instructions on the box.

Paint the bricks with rubber paint in the same way as the primer. You can use any gloss on your brick, and while a gloss finish makes the brick easier to clean, a matte or semi-matte finish looks more natural to the brick. I used satin for mine and was very happy! I used two colors on the primer. (Paint Color: Benjamin Moore Off White)

If you want to change your current outfit like I did, you can easily remove it with a hammer or pole (my husband just used our hands, but it’s the same on the hulk, so it’s up to you get it). I made our new stand from maple saplings. I LOVE how it looks and it’s under $80! (You can see the full DIY process on my Instagram story (@katiebethlamb.)

If you want a cheaper option, you can use pine wood and it costs about $10; However, maple, in my opinion, can give a more classic look and look better overall! A classic color combination that matches our kitchen sink; However, you can use any color that suits your home style.

Then we added new fireplace doors (These are the ones I chose); However, if it’s not in your budget to do this, you can paint yours on the other side, as ours has two fireplaces. You can check out my post on how to do it HERE!

In the end, due to the period and location of the house, it was decided to leave and add other elements to break the monotony of the bricks.

So what does this have to do with the kitchen??? Good question! Although we decided to keep the exterior brick original, I also felt that the interior brick fireplace needed to be painted!

So which color did I choose? BLACK! I love a good accent wall with black. I think that the light elements in the space, the black (or dark colors in general) give this great contrast.

I admit, even though my creative side knew black was better, I was skeptical. And one day I left!

I’ve heard that certain types of paint are better for brick, but I had a gallon of semi-gloss black from another project and it worked great (and still holds up perfectly after 4 months).

Using a good quality brush, I created a nice tone and painted only the bricks. Here are some photos from the transition…

Two full coats + third coat for a few spots that needed extra coverage and it was done.

Anyway, I like the results. It’s not just a fireplace, natural bricks are busy + distracting (including dirty). As a modern color, brick is very soothing to the eye and makes a great background for layers. You are here: Home / DIY Decor / Home Improvement / How to Paint a Brick Fireplace (The Right Way)

The fireplace in our family room is unsightly brick. When we first moved in, it was unpainted red brick and I hated it.

I’m not a big fan of the red-orange brick, but our fireplace is badass because of the large grid line.

How To Paint Fireplace Brick White With Primer And Regular Paint

I started painting the fireplace with chalk paint and it was amazing. But I got distracted and didn’t close it right away.

The paint got really dirty when my son drove his little car all over the furnace.

To redeem myself a bit (big mistake) I painted a satin ball to match the chalk paint I used.

It’s hard to photograph, but the picture below gives the idea. The brighter half on the right is satin painted.

A sharp edge just doesn’t look good. I don’t know how to explain it, but all my attention was drawn to the true color on the bright side.

Not the stove, but the paint itself. The matte side of chalk paint is like this, the shiny side is not.

I know it sounds crazy, but there was a huge difference between the two. I don’t think it has anything to do with using rubber paint instead of chalk paint.

The problem is that the color of the satin shines a little. Bricks are completely matte, so it makes sense that matte colors look best on bricks.
