Brick Colors For New Homes – This week has been exciting! I’ve been planning to paint the exterior of my house for a long time and I’m excited that the time has finally come! There are a lot of decisions to be made when it comes to an exterior project… more than I thought. A lot goes into the details of the exterior…hopefully I can share some of what I’ve learned.
I spent hours searching the internet for the perfect combination of painted bricks. One thing I knew was that I wanted something other than true white. The reflective values of white can really brighten up a white house and reflect light. With our house in direct sunlight – I knew I would need a colorful version of white brick. The style of our house is also very traditional. I didn’t think white would be the best compliment to his architecture. When I see a bright white exterior, I think of a modern farmhouse.
Brick Colors For New Homes
There were plenty of opportunities to add some personality with painted trim, baseboards and gutters. Playing with all the possibilities in my head made me dizzy! While browsing Pinterest for brick painting inspiration, I came across a company called Brick & Batten. I immediately submitted my photos and answered a few initial questions about the design. I was hoping it would help me bring my vision to life and put my mind at ease about such a large investment in our home. I got the new model of our exterior you see below in about a week!
The Best Exterior Brick And Paint Color Combinations For Curb Appeal
The biggest change to our entire exterior is obviously the paint and windows!! The combination is River Pewter for the brick and Chelsea Gray for all trim and soffits. Both colors are really warm and I think they will respect the traditional lines of our house.
Windows: I haven’t decided to replace Windows yet. This is a big expense! I’m still researching, getting bids, and coming up with a final design plan before I make this decision. I think I’ll update the grid template regardless of the final decision to replace the windows.
I went back and forth a few times on gutter replacement (and got some quotes). The last quote I got for gutter painting was around $2,200. The cost to remove and replace all gutters, filters and sheets was $7,500. It’s a big expense – but we think it’s a good investment in terms of longevity and future maintenance costs.
I’ll be sharing a whole blog about everything I’ve learned about gutters – and that’s a lot! Shown above are close-ups of helmets that were quite popular 20 years ago. I don’t think they are as popular anymore and for good reason. The new filters will be much nicer and barely noticeable.
Mixing Patterns And Textures With Your Roof
One thing to note is that there are many options for gutter and window colors. I chose the bronze shown below right. I think knowing the many options available for different design elements can be very helpful in planning the overall design.
It’s the side corner next to the entrance to our house that most people use. My first job will be to remove the storm door! I plan to replace it with a larger and more functional door. My goal is to remove the side light and replace the entire 48″ door opening with a larger 40″ arched door. This element will match some of the arched architecture in our home.
This new side view from Brick & Batten really sang to me. Here you can see more trim colors and what a difference adding some woodwork will make. This garage door is a little too modern for me – but I thought it was a good visual to see what a new wood door would add to the overall feel of the house.
While I don’t think a new garage door is in our budget this year, I found the perfect new garage door inspiration (below) for when we go. For this year, I’m thinking of trying to do a fake tree look with this painting kit I found on Amazon.
How To Choose Your Exterior’s Best Paint Colours: 5 Easy Steps
The back of the house is definitely the area that will see the biggest change. The small deck will be finished when we renovate our kitchen next year and we’ve already made some big changes to our decor. I’m hoping to have our balcony patio finished within the next month, along with a new exterior door leading to our balcony.
Here is the front yard. I am very happy with the progress of just cleaning up the yard and adding fresh sod.
I asked Brick & Batten to help me look at our bedroom’s glass balcony and new black doors. I want to be able to visually see some of these elements to help me make big decisions.
I’m still finalizing the colors and details, but I have a good start on the general theme for my exterior. Here’s a quick design board with colors and design elements. I haven’t made any definitive promises about window colors or lighting, but I’ve definitely narrowed it down to the top contenders!

There are many things to consider when choosing exterior colors for your home, and the most striking are the fixed features.
Stunning Exterior Paint Colors For Brick Homes
Look at the fixed features of any attractive home and you will begin to see a certain repetition of tones. This duplication allows different materials and textures to work well together. This is especially important for a home with a full or partial brick exterior.
When choosing exterior colors for your brick home, look for colors that match or complement the prevailing brick color or tone. All colors should be coordinated with the bricks to create the best look. If you’re building a new home, choose the brick first, then create a color scheme that enhances that feature.
Color is a term used when talking about stone, brick, roofing or other materials. Usually, these main elements of the exterior of the house are not monochromatic, but a combination of colors. It would not be fair to describe these materials as monochromatic, because the beauty lies in the color variations. The term “color” describes the dominant color in a material consisting of different colors. Color is a term that has its roots in photography and describes the overall color of a photographic image due to sunlight or incandescent light.
