But Benjamin Moore has one major weakness in Sherwin-Williams paints. Before we dive in, let’s talk about the price difference between Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams paint.
Benjamin Moore is slightly more expensive than Sherwin Williams house paint when comparing similar products. As mentioned above, both companies have different lines of interior and exterior paint, such as Cashmere, Emerald or Duration. Overall, Sherwin Williams paint costs about $53 a gallon compared to Benjamin Moore’s $57.
Sherwin-Williams also has Superpaint, which experts say is the most effective of all paints. By comparison, Superpaint sells to consumers for about $48 a gallon. This is about $30 less than Sherwin’s high-end Emerald line.
In general, better paints are usually worth the money, but up to a point. Personally, I’m not a big fan of high end paints like Sherwin’s Emerald or Benjamin Moore’s Aura. These two specialty paint lines are very expensive at almost $70 per gallon.

This is the obvious weakness of Benjamin Moore compared to Sherwin Williams. Depending on where your home is located, it can be difficult to find a store that offers Benjamin Moore paint. This is because Benjamin Moore distributes its paints through independent stores such as Ace Hardware and JCLicht hardware stores. Compare that to Sherwin-Williams, which owns and operates all of its own retail stores.
Even if there is a Benjamin Moore paint store near you, I have found that independent retailers offer different product lines. For example, you won’t find some of the white paint lines that JCLicht carries at Ace Hardware.

This is the only option when choosing between Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore. As a painting contractor, I would choose Sherwin if I had to drive more than 15 minutes to a Benjamin Moore store over a Sherwin store. It’s very close when comparing the two types of paint.
Whether you are an artist or a homeowner, the proximity of a paint store should be a consideration. When shopping for paint for any paint job, you may have to stop at the store to fill up the gallons or whatever. Without a doubt, you will thank yourself for choosing a nearby store when you combine the old years of paint.

All paint companies offer a color consultation, but Sherwin’s consultants are free, while Benjamin Moore’s color consultants cost about $40 to $80. In addition, not all Benjamin Moore stores offer this service. You can book a Sherwin design consultation online here. Unfortunately, Benjamin Moore Consultants can only book by contacting your store.
In addition, Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore share measurements so that colors can be matched to each other if needed. However, I recommend keeping the same color gamut as the store if possible to avoid color differences.
Paint gloss refers to the sheen or sheen of the paint after it dries. The brightness of the paint you choose is in many ways just as important as the color. This is where things can get complicated when comparing Sherwin Williams to Benjamin Moore. Each paint maker has a different name for their gloss. It is more difficult due to the fact that some of the individual paint lines have their own special points.
To make choosing glosses easier, contact your paint store and ask for recommendations. And for outdoor spaces, we recommend a smooth, matte or satin finish for the rail. and semi-gloss or gloss for trim, doors, and windows.
Benjamin Moore Vs Sherwin Williams Paint
Benjamin Moore’s most popular paint product is Regal Select. In fact, over 50% of professional painters choose Regal Select as their wall paint of choice. This 100% premium acrylic latex paint just checks all the boxes. That said, you can’t beat Regal for portability, thickness, and ease of use. It is also known for its longevity and purity.
Like most wall paints, two coats are required, but its color retention is excellent compared to other similar paints. Regal is more expensive at $50-$60 per gallon, but in most cases, it’s worth every penny. However, Regal plays better and is $10 to $20 per gallon cheaper than the equivalent Sherwin Cashmere line. Benjamin Moore’s Regal is a better paint than Sherwin’s Superpaint, but Regal is $10 to $20 more per gallon.
Likewise, Regal Select is a corrosion-resistant paint. This makes it safe to use around the house during and after painting and reduces paint fumes.
If you’re looking for an interior paint color, consider Benjamin Moore’s Aura paint line. A step above the Regal Select, the Aura is $15 to $25 more expensive, but a thicker paint provides more color coverage.
The Perfect Shades Of Greige
Last but not least, Aura and Regal Select are made with Benjamin Moore’s Gennex Color Technology, which allows both paints to hold vibrant colors longer. This new technology also reduces the amount of synthetic resin in Regal Select and Aura paints.
You can think of Ben By Benjamin Moore as the younger brother of Regal Select. As you can imagine, Ben is $20 a gallon cheaper than Regal Select. However, it performs better than other Sherwin Williams interior paints such as A-100.
The main difference is that the Regal Select offers more thickness than the Ben. This is due to the high amount of solids in the paint. Also, Ben’s drying time is two hours compared to Regal’s.
Again, the Regal Select is more finished than the Ben. In fact, the Ben is only flat, eggshell, and semi-glossy, while the Regal includes all three, with matte and pearl finishes.
Tips And Tricks For Choosing The Perfect Paint Color
But it’s a little known fact about the interior paint Ben Benjamin Moore. Not only is it self-collecting, but Ben’s eggshell and flat ice is close to zero VOCs. This is why we love using Benjamin Moore’s Ben for interior paint jobs. Also, Ben’s is almost $30 cheaper than Sherwin Williams’ Zero VOC brand Harmony.
It is a stable paint that comes in and performs well that is better for the environment. Professional painters still consider it a big win.
Another distinguishing feature of Benjamin Moore is its Advance line of water-reducible alkyd paints. Advance is one of the best paints on the market for interior decoration, doors, windows and doors. Sherwin Williams Proclassic Upholstery Paint outperforms in almost every situation and remains low VOC even after painting. It is also cheaper at $55 per gallon than Proclassic at $70 per gallon.
