Colors For Kitchens With Oak Cabinets
What can you do when your kitchen is old, yet the kitchen of your dreams is not in sight? Maybe for you, a temporary renovation is possible – paint the cabinets white, install wood flooring or subway tile, and update the table top.
Choosing The Best White Paint Color For Your Kitchen Cabinets
Or maybe these updates aren’t optional. Maybe they’re not in your budget or you don’t have the time. Maybe you’re renting and you’re not allowed to make permanent changes to your place.
This is where I found myself in recent years. After a tough summer of renovations, we decided to wait with a major kitchen renovation. However, I knew I wanted to make some changes without painting our oak cabinets.
My goal is to make simple, inexpensive changes that will help me embrace our messy kitchen until we’re ready to remodel. I had to find simple and creative ways to update the space. Fortunately, I like to be creative!
I set out to find the right wall paint colors for the oak beams, which would compliment the understated oranges rather than compete with them.
Kitchen Cabinet Colors That Will Stand The Test Of Time, According To Designers
But first, here are some pictures of our kitchen. It works and has benefited us in many ways. But it was dated and not exactly what I wanted it to be. I know I can improve it with a few simple changes.
Our kitchen was like the rest of his time. It is filled with oak veneer cabinets from the 1980s, a dark green ceiling that makes the room feel heavy and small, a light brown table top that matches the cabinets, and a small window in the top of the basin.
So there are a few things going on in the kitchen. For example, the boxes are in good condition. And while the marble is slightly chipped, it doesn’t clash with the cabinets or the floor. It’s the beginning!
First, I knew I had to paint the walls. The existing colors – dark green and red – did not compete with the orange oak wood, but were dark and heavy in the already dark space. I want to keep things simple.
Kitchen Cabinet Color Trends For 2021
Color is one technique I like to add brightness to a room. There’s nothing like a can of paint to brighten up a dark room and make it feel clean and fresh! In addition, painting is budget friendly, easy and fast – you can paint your food as a weekend project!
I like a nice warm or soft cream in my background and decor. Sometimes I even paint the walls and print the same color, to really open up the space and make it bigger and more cohesive.
In this kitchen, I painted the ceiling, walls and ceiling a beautiful soft cream. It also matches the ceramic tones of the backsplash tile. The dark green of the living room makes the kitchen look heavy, and it also makes the space look cramped.
The soft color of the ceiling makes the kitchen more open, light and airy – it’s amazing! The lower part merges into the roof and almost disappears, making the roof look bigger.
The Best Dark Wall Paint Color For Oak Cabinets
Since it is close to the color of the backsplash, the whole room becomes less than usual, making it bigger and brighter!
I also painted the dirt white to finish it off. A new white board and trim around the opening and window shows the ceramic wall and emphasizes the soft and beautiful color. The overall effect was clean, fresh, bright and cooking!
The problem comes when many homeowners, who prefer a pleasant sound, abandon their homes and paint the kitchen of oak gray or blue. Or maybe they think they’ll play it safe and paint the walls white—only to opt for a soft, cool white.
It makes the baskets more orange – not less! Now those shelves you didn’t want before just stick out like a sore thumb.
Sage Green Kitchen Cabinets (with Paint Colors!)
The trick is to paint your walls a color that will bring down the orange tone in the oak, not overpower it.
Warm in the color of the wall will match – not compete – with the closet, giving it more unity.
Here are some of my favorite hot blogs. I use all of these in my home:
Here are some neutral colors in my home that are more colorful than white. Good paint colors for oak wood include:
Greige Paint Colors
You like color, why not try a natural color like Sherwin Williams Rosemary or Pewter? After all, green is currently on trend.
I know, in my small kitchen I painted my ceiling dark green. But if your space has a more open concept, a warm olive green can be a perfect match with the oak wooden cabinets.
To lighten the orange or yellow colors in oak or maple, choose a calm, fresh neutral that is warm for balance but soft enough to distract.
Although I would argue that beautiful wooden planks are always in style, it is true that the orange-yellow finish of the 80’s oak planks is not very attractive these days! Tone the finish by choosing a paint color that calms the mood!

Although our bronze cup is no longer sold, it is very similar in style and finish.
What do you think? Painting your kitchen walls the right color will help you hug your oak flooring a little longer? If you have oak wood in the kitchen, it is important to paint the room well. Paint Colors That Go With Oak Cabinets
It is the most popular choice for most interior designs because of its simplicity and flexibility. It is neutral white, which means it has no real color. Britannica states that white reflects all colors, making it suitable for almost any style.
This trend can make a white, neutral kitchen look bigger than it is. When all the light shines, the room can feel more spacious. This can be important for kitchens, which are usually smaller than other rooms in the house.
Because white has a natural warmth, it will also go well with red or white oak wood.
White oak wood is usually not white and instead is more neutral like gray and brown. So, using too much white can’t carry weight.
Paint Colors Designers Can’t Wait To Use On Kitchen Cabinets
These options need to be balanced because they are hot and sometimes feel lazy. However, they still have neutral options, making them very attractive.
But they will not fill the kitchen with light. Instead, combining gray or black furniture with oak wood will help create a contrast.
It can make the cupboards stand out and become your cooking space. This is a great way to display decorative or important jewelry.
Natural wood always has a brown tone or undertone, so painting a brown kitchen is an obvious play. Brown is almost neutral, not warm like white or cool like gray and black.
Kitchen Cabinet Color Combinations To Try
However, heat is associated with nature, such as trees, sand and soil. This means that painting the kitchen in a warm color can limit the type of interior design you can use.
And if your rooms already have a lot of heat, the connection can feel a little. If you choose a brown kitchen for your rooms, you can still use wood stain to create a good balance between the two.
Like brown, these two colors can also represent nature. But they are available in more interior designs, and they show color.
Both green and blue retain their heat in any shade, no matter how light or dark. But green is hot, and blue is cold.
Beautiful White Oak Kitchens
You can use green to accept the warmth of the oak wood or blue to create a pleasant contrast.
Traditionally, kitchens use a lot of natural light to make the room feel more airy. Sky blue will agree with the outdoor environment, and green will always be suitable for a bright kitchen.
But green is also the direct opposite of red on the color scheme, so expect a contrast with oak wood. And blue
