Select the highlighted shape in the image below and focus on the color palette (Window > Colors) to see the current fill color. You can see that orange is made up of 6% cyan, 70% magenta and 90% yellow. These three colors and black make a four-color piece. Now you might want to turn it into a two-color piece, and when someone prints it, you want the orange to be the same color.

Make sure your shape is still selected. To find the perfect Pantone, go to Edit > Edit Color > Recolor Artwork (or click the Recolor Artwork button in the Control Panel).
In the newly opened window, click the highlighted button to limit the color change to the color library you will specify. Go to Color Book > PANTONE+ Solid Coating. Looking back at the swatches, you’ll see that the orange color in Pantone has been changed and a Pantone Spot Color swatch has been added to the swatch (Window > Swatch).
Now you can select this galaxy shape, set the same Pantone color from the Swatch panel and reduce the shade to about 50%.

Select all in the logo and go to Edit > Edit Color > Recolor with Preset > 2 Color…. Select PANTONE+ Solid Coated Library and click OK to open the Recolor Artwork window. Here you can change the preset if you ever change your mind. This does not happen, so click OK.

As with all CMYK-defined swatches, they change appearance depending on the CMYK profile assigned to the document. When the color appearance changes, conversion to hex (RGB) or lab color space produces a new value that represents the changed color appearance.

Just, I wonder what the CP color is for? It seems that I mistakenly expected the CMYK output to match the solid coated color (as close as possible to the process), but it only shows a rough CMYK match in the given environment. So, I’m not sure why the CP script is useful. It always seems best to specify C or U and let the program or printer determine the best CMYK match in that situation.

Also, older CS6 bridge libraries still ship with IDs that have incomprehensible inconsistencies – colors in libraries are converted using different formats. The latest bridge swatches you can get through the Pantone Connect plugin seem to have fixed this issue, but I think it’s better to use the Solid+ coated library as the color source and convert to the correct CMYK space.
There are problems with using ink troughs and spot colors, so it may be better to assign a solid ink color to the process and convert to CMYK from the Swatch panel, in which case the CMYK profile assigned by the document is used for the conversion. Can be represented in CMYK. But the actual CMYK value is almost meaningless. God, it would help if Pantone was very clear about what their books do and don’t do. (I noticed that in other cases they are not very good at giving clear information. For example, identifying which generation the coloring book belongs to. This requires a detective and not the simple ‘2016 series’ printed on the cover. And their logic ( behind the system their numbering may cause them to be displayed clearly.)
