40 designer-approved grays 29 blues that interior designers love 45 perfect colors to paint a bedroom Your guide to choosing white colors Welcome to my friend Jen’s living room. This is the first room that greets you when you enter their home. They bought this house this summer and asked me to help them build it. We chose to start with this secondary living room, which receives plenty of amazing sunlight throughout the day and is a great starting point for creating a finished space since the rest of the main living room is open concept. Here you can see what it looked like before…

His entire house was painted brown by the previous owner. Ultimately, they want to paint all the downstairs rooms in the large, open concept space a light gray or soft white, so we think painting the walls a strong color will be a good contrast to the rest of the space going forward. They wanted the place to be a nice and quiet place to entertain friends when they had guests over. So we decided on a quiet living room without a TV.

We replaced the lighting with a partially recessed light that we left from our bedroom after installing a ceiling fan here last fall. It’s a simple, modern school lamp with black accents that help tie the space together.

Perfect Dark Paint Colors, According To Interior Designers

By Benjamin Moore. It’s the perfect moody, warm, bold green that doesn’t look like emerald green. In my opinion, the perfect dark green. We placed a rug over her current Loloi rug (Layla LAY-06 in Taupe).

We created a very classic living room layout with a standard size sofa paired with two matching accent chairs. The sofa is a soft gray color that helps brighten the room, but not too bright that a child can completely ruin it. The Nord Charme chairs from Articulo add the perfect amount of warmth and stay true to the mid-century style that my friend Jen loves. They are also very comfortable.

We moved the chairs away from the wall near the window so as not to block the light coming in from the windows. The base and arm design maximizes the amount of light in the space. We added a small coffee table in the middle so there was enough space to walk around the room. I like the way the grid pattern balances the grid on the wall with the gallery on the back wall. This was a thrifty find that I had to change (watch the video above to see for yourself!).

I also kept these carved wood tiles and hung them on the wall. I always like to have a room full of 20% to 40% vintage or used items. This keeps it from looking too “off the shelf” and adds a lot of personality to it.

Gorgeous Dark Bedrooms

This gallery wall is my favorite moments in the space. We played with symmetry throughout the room. A grid pattern of black frames and large white rugs adds a focal point to the room. It also provides a personal moment as all the frames are filled with his travel photos and other special moments in his life.

Above the couch we hung an abstract painting on canvas that I made for them and placed in a simple Ikea frame. Since the frame was the smallest in size, I wanted to visually increase the space on all sides with black modern wall lamps. Bonus: this means you don’t need floor or table lamps. I am very pleased with the appearance of this space and grateful to Article for working with me to transform this room.

For many, inky blues, deep charcoal tones and pure blacks are a no-no when considering interior colors. According to designers, homeowners should reconsider ditching this color range before considering how amazing your space can look with a bold and rich paint color. When used well, darker colors can open up a space. Because they are more dynamic than overused whites and neutral shades, they give your home a unique character. The key, of course, is finding the right shade. Finding the perfect color for your room can be overwhelming because you have to look through so many color shades.
