Using large items like wreaths and shrubs made this Christmas themed dining room take less than 15 minutes. Decorating with such objects is easier than many individual stems. Large items primarily serve as a guide for placement, as they span the full length of the table.
If I’m using a tall wreath as a base layer, I want each stem to extend from the center of the wreath as much as possible. Then I layer other elements in between to fill in any gaps.

“No gold will last,” wrote the poet Robert Frost. She’s never sat at Ayesha Curry’s holiday table, which is adorned with glittering pottery barn-carved trees and matching candlesticks. Sitting atop a black and white botanical rug, this pair is proof that it takes too long to get a glitter overdose. Curry tip? Contrast the gilded table setting with the fresh greenery behind it. “During the holidays, I like to incorporate natural greenery and light throughout the house,” she says. “Every room smells festive and wonderful.”
Karen Suen-Cooper and Martin Cooper of The Punctual Mr. Pis Place Card Co. They knew exactly which elements to include in this year’s festive assortment: candelabras, pedestals, glass balls and — no surprise — place cards, a wonderful personal touch the company’s founders want to share with the world for the rest of their lives. For Suen-Cooper, setting the table is an opportunity for self-reflection on what the holiday is all about. “Draw objects you love that have a story and meaning,” he says, adding that a standout table requires only a few key elements: “Rich, rhythmic repetition in size, surface, material and color.” Case in point: observe the many spherical objects, both organic and inorganic: lotus flowers, pomegranates, flowers, and jewels of many sizes and colors.
Mr. Punctilious P’s Place Card Co. of Suen-Cooper. She also creates indigenous magic, layering materials and natural elements — “nature’s organic treasures” — to achieve refreshingly creative looks. “We look at fabrics and trims throughout the year,” says Suen-Cooper. “If you really separate each element, you’ll find that some elements are unique to Christmas, but all together are A.D.E.: Abundant, Dimensional and Embracing.” Get the look by combining green apples, limes, pine cones and matching pumpkins. All in a collection bowl or on a pedestal. Bonus style points for dressing up with Mr. P.

A round table is a great asset at a dinner party, because no one is left out of the conversation. For her round table, IDCO Studio founder Anastasia Casey created just the centerpiece—a spring basket filled with warm flowers—that adds all the drama without sacrificing valuable tabletop space. “I started with an airtight bowl in the basket and put a ball of chicken wire in the bowl to hold the shape of the center piece,” says Casey. “I started with half a dozen faux chocolate cosmos, then added big-branched and thick-stemmed dahlias. This adds structure to the arrangement and distributes the weight. ”Pro tip: Don’t forget to remove the leaves from the flower stems for a neater look.

For Hicks, it’s all about layering everything from traditional Christmas crackers (until she reaches her Caribbean home) to candles, glasses and napkins. Your green source? “OKA leaves are so reliable that it’s hard to find,” he says. “When you throw in some peacock feathers from the garden it looks a bit wild and definitely unpredictable – I hate predictability.”
