Emerald Sherwin Williams For Cabinets – When we remodeled our kitchen a few years ago, I remember thinking I was going to make a move by painting my cabinets green. I know I want to bring color but everything I think is safe for me in the blue family. So I took the plunge, committed to the Deep Forest (Benjamin Moore) and suddenly green grass (in all colors) appeared everywhere.
I’m all on board with bringing color back into the kitchen. And in fact, I’m partial to green because it works with so many other things (light white, gray, wood texture, marble, blue and white pieces, sand, etc.). If you decide to add color to the shelves, doors, island or walls in your kitchen, you can consider one of these five colors.

Diy Cabinet Painting Tips
As we’ve shown for many DIY projects, painting is honestly one of the cheapest ways to transform your home and property.
We understand that professional painters may have different ideas about paint colors and more. However, we prefer latex products because it is a DIY painter’s best friend and it is the method that has worked for us over the years.

Choose a good primer, then we recommend using latex enamel paint on the product. If your cabinets are painted, you can skip the initial step. We talk about how to repaint the cabinets in our kitchen island in the post.
The 11 Best Green Paints For Cabinets, According To Experts
Choosing the right color is probably one of the most important things. I would also argue that choosing the right primer is very important when deciding to paint your home.
I’ve read post after post saying that you don’t need to declutter your cabinets. I honestly think it has failed the test of time because of our primer. Don’t skip this step!!
Don’t let the price scare you. Just make sure you buy these colors while they’re 30% off Sheeran Williams’ regular sale. They are always 40% off at certain times of the year.
In the past, we always used latex enamel paint when painting cabinets. I am a big fan of the Sharon Williams Pro Classic line.

However, after using Sherwin’s new Emerald Arthurian trim enamel paint, I will never use another color for cabinets.
The only downside is that the shelves are sticky to the touch for a few days. But if we can survive with kids and not destroy the closet, so can you!
If you paint your kitchen counters when you’re not there or like to smell, Kiel’s Primer, Bun Shellac, or other oil-based primers are good choices.
Professional painters say you need an oil-based primer to prevent tans or bleeding from the wood. You should be able to control odor and grime by using an oil-based primer.
Painting Cabinets. Your Questions Answered!
Our favorite primer is the Multi-Purpose Latex Primer from Sherwin-Williams because it’s so easy to use.
Because it is water-based, you may bleed over time. We painted our oak kitchen 7 years ago and there is only one wooden door where you can see some of the paint. We just added another coat of paint.
Latex enamel paint gives you the benefits of enamel paint such as a harsh finish without the environmental issues like oil-based enamel paint.
Lactic enamel paint can also be cleaned with soap and water. Latex rubber is mixed with oil paint to create a latex enamel paint hybrid that dries faster than oil-based enamels.
What Paint Should I Use To Paint Kitchen Cabinets?
We love how our kitchen repainted the island using Shirin Williams Emerald urethane enamel paint (don’t worry it’s latex infused for easy cleanup).
According to the SW website, “This is an interior/exterior water-based urethane replacement alkyd that looks like an alkyd/oil finish.” Literally, it may sound like oil paint, but latex has its advantages.
Check out this post and video if you need help with step-by-step instructions on exactly how to paint a door with a small foam roller and brush.
Sherwin-Williams Emerald Paint is expensive (especially if you don’t buy it on sale). I also don’t mind the exterior latex enamel in charcoal blue, which we use to paint our bathroom and railing.
EmeraldĀ® Exterior Acrylic Latex Paint
However, for some reason, the top of our railing got a texture that we couldn’t get anywhere with Sharon Williams paint.
So, I will mostly stick with SW latex enamel or Benjamin Moore. I’m glad I tried the cheaper brand because it was a little thin and left easily.
Our bathroom is painted in our kids’ bathroom and still looks amazing (even though the kids can carry the counter).
However, our railing is getting a little rough and there are some areas that have been repeatedly chipped at the edges from the string of vacuum cleaners.
How To Paint Oak Cabinets And Hide The Grain
In the future, I’m sure I’ll repaint the already stained wood with a high-grade latex enamel paint.
The exterior is thinner than its Sharon Williams counterpart. A third coat of paint is needed.
I wouldn’t recommend this color for a big project, but it was perfect for our little project (you can see all the ways we used charcoal blue).
We’ve seen other DIY bloggers use deco satin paint and/or oil-based enamel. And if you don’t want to paint, but still want an easy way to protect your counters, check out our gel-painted countertops.
How To Paint Kitchen Cabinets Like A Pro
Here you can see how we use the skin and color from the sample to test the different islands. The best part is that they are big and come in different colors like Sharon Williams. You can read our full sample review here.
We always use half a glass. For the same reason you don’t want to use chalk paint, you don’t want to use matte or even egg paint.
However, recently I was at Sherry Williams and learned that satin is a very common finish for cabinets, especially kitchen cabinets.
Many people like to use semi-gloss for trim and satin for cabinets. However, we always use semi-gloss latex enamel paint in our kitchens and bathrooms. And let you know that the counters are easy to clean.

If you are well organized and confident in your paint (we bought it just to try), then spraying your cabinets can be a great way to get the best look. We see that the disadvantage of spraying is that it will be difficult to control.
How To Paint Cabinets: Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel Review
If you are organizing storage and can spray the doors and drawers that would be great. I always had luck with a good brush and a small one.
A synthetic 2.5″ finger brush is the best choice for applying cabinet paint. Some people also choose a smaller brush for painting cabinets.
Baby foam allows you to easily control the color and leave a perfect finish while painting your items.
