These Benjamin Moore classics are two of our favorite white paints. In fact, we chose Benjamin Moore’s Sea Pearl as our exterior paint color of the year. Seapearl in white, LRV 77.95. Simply White’s LRV is 91.7, which is brighter. (Learn what LRV is and why it’s especially important for white paint.) These similar colors create a monochrome color scheme, but different colors create subtle contrasts. Simple White (painted here on the tile) provides a warm glow that sets and contrasts the gray tones of the Sea Pearl (painted on the brick).

How To Pick Your Exterior Paint Colours In 5 Easy Steps

Alabaster by Sherwin Williams is a great choice for brick. The color of this paint changes depending on the texture, making it a good choice for a variety of exterior materials. Our designers used Alabaster in the brick, flooring and siding in the above photo of the house. When going in this direction, we recommend adding some dimension and depth with a darker paint like Sherwin Williams’ Tricorn Black. Tricorn Black is used on the garage door and front door. Alabaster is not bright white and Tricorn Black is not black, so it is not a solid black and white checkerboard style combination. This combination of brick and paint colors offers modern and understated drama.

This combination of warm, earthy brick and paint colors brings a sense of harmony to the home’s facade. These paint colors complement each other rather than being points of contrast. The Olympic Mountains take center stage in the brickwork, Sandy Hook Gray adorns the floor and fascia, while Simply White highlights the trim and completes the look.

Brick houses with orange clay tile roofs look very fresh and modern when the bricks are painted yellow or white. Such a unique roof should be the focal point of the exterior design, and red brick can compete with it. Our designer classic beige is Benjamin Moore’s Grant Beige. In this example, Sherwin Williams’ Urbane Bronze highlights deepen and bridge the gap between the light beige and saturated tile colors. (Urbane Bronze is one of Sherwin Williams’ top exterior paint colors for 2021 and is known for its versatility.) Tip: Bronze or copper gutters and downspouts look great with clay tile roofs and beige paint.

Painting Your Historic House, A Guide To Colors And Color Schemes

If you are working on brick that has never been painted, you can whitewash it. This is a great effect, keeping the tone of the brick and giving the house an old, historic feel. In the house above, our designer recommended ROMABIO’s Classico lime washer. Warm paint colors complement warm brick tones. This home also has many beautiful architectural elements that can be highlighted with paint. Here, designer Iron Mountain presents Sherwin Williams’ Benjamin Moore, Natural Choice, and Porpoise accent pieces.

It sounds like you don’t need our permission, but based on our recommendations, we recommend using Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore together in one design! Both brands work well when painted over properly prepared brick. Seapearl looks especially good on brick because the front brick is white and the spaces between the bricks look gray, which gives it an internal dimension. This home features non-brick exterior finishes and painted Benjamin Moore Onyx siding and accents in Sherwin Williams Iron Ore, creating a rich, deep contrast that brings out the gray of the sea pearl.

If you keep the red brick natural, the gray coating will give it a polished look. This is one of the best brick and paint color combinations in our book. In fact, many bricks have patches of gray and beige stone in them, and the grout looks gray from a distance. Painting your decor in Benjamin Moore’s Sandy Hook Gray will bring out these colors.

Mixed materials with a bit of paint work together rather than competing. The house has brick inserts, weathered siding, and natural stone—all of which are beautiful materials in their own right, but the color palette caught the eye. In this case, the right combination of brick and paint colors can make all the difference. Our designers painted Benjamin Moore’s Revere Pewter brick in neutral tones to highlight the stone’s natural details. Coastal Iron Mountain adds more dimension to the house – note how flat the front in the previous photo is compared to the other, bringing out the grays and blues in the stone. Onyx paint on the lids provides contrast.

What Color Siding Goes With Red Brick?

Does this paint combination look familiar? This is the same trio as number 8 above, but looks completely different when combined with bare brick. Revere Pewter, Iron Mountain, and Onyx are three neutrals that work well together. These paint colors help define the home’s architecture without being too busy, even with a high-contrast red brick and light lime base.

Dull brick or chalk paint isn’t for everyone. If you want to update the brick with a fresh white color, alabaster is a great choice. Its warm yellow color helps to play well with natural wood. This combination, along with black Marvin windows, will completely update the look of this home.

A few key points about brick and paint color combinations: Brick usually looks great when painted white, beige, or gray. Natural bricks work well with thermal neutrals. Lighter colors bring out the texture of the brick, and the addition of dark gray paint to shutters and trim creates contrast.
