Exterior Paint Color Schemes For Brick Homes

Exterior Paint Color Schemes For Brick Homes – Exterior paint color for existing or new homes can be a difficult decision for homeowners. The options for exterior paint color combinations are endless.

Homeowners with existing homes are limited by the hard finish (roof, brick, stone). Production (tract) builders usually offer curated selections that don’t conflict with each other, but still have risks.

The first decision homeowners make after signing a contract to build a new home is exterior decisions, usually requiring a building permit. My family recently started a new build, so I’m taking you through the process in this new build blog series.

I chose Richmond American (not sponsored by the blog) as my builder. Because they have a great reputation in our area and their quality is excellent.

Before we share some of our favorite exterior paint color schemes, let’s make sure we’re all on the same page when it comes to different areas of new construction exteriors and exterior home coatings.

As for new construction, it’s similar to second-hand housing. The difference is that new buildings require you to choose roofs and solid finishes like stone or brick. For existing houses, only the existing roof and stone or brick.

First, search for exterior paint color palettes on Pinterest and find homes near you that have the color palette you want. Keep it simple. With a large number of elements, you can choose combinations that collide. If you have a model, look at it together under natural light.

When choosing an exterior wall paint, we must not forget about the real appearance of the house: the surroundings, the floor and the ambient light. Make sure your color choices are in harmony with your neighbors. Try to stick to the theme of the neighborhood without repeating the colors.

Note that paint colors are 4-5 times brighter and more colorful on the outside than on the inside and side. One of the most common mistakes homeowners make is choosing colors that are too bright or too bright after they have been applied to the exterior.

Where you live also makes a difference in the colors outside. For example, a wooded area with lots of green trees will reflect lots of green light into the house, emphasizing the shades of green already in the paint.

The intensity of the sun in your area also plays a role. Homeowners living in Florida experience much brighter sun than those living in New York, so bright and white colors can appear overwhelming. As in Colorado, The Color Concierge is located. Also, higher elevations can have the same problem.

How To Choose Exterior Paint Colors For A Brick Home

For new buildings, first select the roof and stone or brick. Limit your choices to a busy decision. For example, if the price includes 2 stones, select only 1 stone. Choose either stone or brick, but not both. Don’t feel like you have to choose stone or brick. Just because it’s in doesn’t mean you have to use it. If your stone is busy, choose a monochromatic roof.

The key is to keep the patterned finish, such as stone or brick, very simple. This will make choosing your exterior brick and paint color combinations easier.

How To Choose Your Exterior’s Best Paint Colours: 5 Easy Steps

One of the best ways to create a cohesive exterior paint color scheme is to match one of your chosen stone colors.

Brick and stone have a rustic finish, so it’s best to choose paints in earthy colors like warm white and brown. For example, a color like Benjamin Moore’s Manchester Tan is an exterior paint color that works well with red brick.

Another trick to creating exterior brick and paint color combinations is to match the color of the brick or stone grout to the color of the house.

For red brick, the grout is usually greenish-gray in color. Finding similar paints to use on the body of the house creates a more cohesive exterior paint color palette.

The Best Exterior Paint Colors In 2022: Choosing The Right Hue For Your Home

Colors like Sherwin-Williams’ Fawn Brindle and Benjamin Moore’s Rockport Gray are good examples of green-based grays that aren’t too bright for outdoor use.

As we discussed earlier in this post, whether you’re choosing a new exterior finish or renovating an existing home, the exterior of your home will need to be painted in different areas. Each element of the exterior requires individual attention when choosing a paint color.

In general, limit paint colors to a trim, door color, main body color, and secondary body color. If you choose a complementary casing color, use it to emphasize architectural features like gables or accent secondary casing materials like shingles.

Exterior Brick Paint Color Ideas For Your Home

A good percentage of homes have white vinyl windows. If this is your home, we recommend painting the siding around them white. The frame is a finish that fades with a light color. Dark window trim with white vinyl windows will complement the white vinyl and look cheap.

But don’t try to match the white of the window. Remember – light colors are brighter outside, so we recommend choosing a slightly darker white to create a smooth transition between windows and brick, stone or siding.

For exterior white trim, I like darker, warmer whites like Sherwin Williams Oyster White and Zurich White. Classic Gray or Edgecomb Gray serve as trim colors in Benjamin Moore’s exterior paint colors. If your side is more light, you can choose Sherwin-Williams Greek Villa or Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee.

Many bloggers recommend Benjamin Moore White Dove or Alabaster as a white trim color, which we usually don’t like. This is another reason to check paints very carefully.

Black Exterior Paint Colors

If you have black windows, be careful when choosing the color of the cladding. If the trim is painted black it will look heavy. Use white trim or an exterior paint color as window trim instead. Another option is to paint the outline in body color.

Panels should usually (but not always) be the same color as the cladding and windows. Use black roofing, especially white siding, for a modern farmhouse look. A dark brown roof works well with dark earthy panels and a rustic color palette.

The green color of the facade of this historic house is enough to match the green roof and blend well with the beautiful brick work.

We love the white roof line, especially since many homes have white vinyl trim. Choose a white that’s warmer than you think. Applying too much pure white can cause blindness in the eyes. Basically, white siding on a house is too bright from the outside.

Exterior Paint Color Combinations

If possible, paint the porch soffit and ceiling the same color as the siding for a consistent look. The color of the white soffit and porch brightens the interior by reflecting the light inside. The colors painted around the windows will actually reflect that color inside and affect the look of the interior paint.

If the fascia is black, carefully consider painting the soffit black or the main body color. I really like the combination of black soffit and panels, but if the soffit is too wide it can be heavy.
