The number one painting question I’ve gotten over the years is choosing exterior paint colors because it’s one of the hardest painting decisions you can make for your home. You want to give your home a nice curb appeal and you don’t want to make color mistakes. If you follow my seven steps below, I promise you’ll be able to avoid common mistakes and make great decisions about your exterior paint color! Stay with me on this one!

The first thing you need to do when deciding what color you want to paint the exterior of your home is to choose a color shade. When I say “shade” do I mean do you want a light color, a medium shade, or a dark color for the body of your home? At this point, you don’t have to think about anything other than deciding whether you want a light color or white, a medium tone or a medium tone, or whether you want a dark color.
For most of you, choosing a shade is an easy, instant decision, and you know right away whether you want a light or dark home.
