Paint Colors That Go With A Red Brick Fireplace
I just spent 20 minutes trying to think of the best title for this post 🤔, that would capture the amazing contrast of our new exterior paint color on our house. Not sure about the title”
” is appropriate. All I know is that after all the research on red brick colors, after all the mini tests around our house, by far, this custom navy blue my husband and I created is definitely the top dog. If you have similar red brick on the exterior of your home and are looking to update your home, this could be the paint color that takes your home to a whole new level.
When we moved into the house, it was painted an elegant color with creamy ivory trim that really cleaned up the whole Cape Cod style of our new home. I think it’s fine and goes well with the brick, but it doesn’t crack and looks old on the house. I almost passed out 🤧. Honestly, it’s boring and too predictable.
The darker sage green door fits, but again, I feel old and dusty when I look at the front door. As you can see below, our dog, Friend, wants to go out 😆.

After a year or so, we hired a crew to paint the house a cheerier blue (make sure you check lots of references and get lots of quotes). Did I find the right color? Uh, no. It grows here, and this blue color is definitely an upgrade from boring sage. After we replaced the traditional shutters with our DIY cedar shutters, I began to appreciate the color blue better. It stayed like that for about 10 years. You may notice that the updated garage door matches the shutters and everything flows nicely.
Unfortunately, the front door still doesn’t look right 🤔. Even after replacing the old brick staircase with beautiful DIY mahogany stairs, I still don’t feel like this front door has reached its full potential. We also planned to replace it completely, but the old door was so solid that it didn’t seem like the right choice. Especially considering how expensive quality doors can be. Maybe one day, but wait until you see what the final color looks like on our old door now…
Pow! Welcome to our home. See how this bold navy color accentuates our front door. So great you can catch a rainbow 🌈
