Sometimes there are projects that make me stop…but not always in a good way. My client is planning to list the house and wants to give it a facelift with new colors. However, when they wanted to paint the cedar siding, they wanted to keep the trim, shutters, and front door the same color.

I have to take a deep breath for this one and an even bigger gulp of wine before I send a message that reads:

I know you want to list the house and spend a little, I know. However, no paint color can match the color of the trim and shutters and how they relate to the brick and roof.
I suggest you drop it all and sell your house as is OR, I wonder if you would be open to the idea of doing it faster…well, maybe more painting the trim, the windows, the front. doors and even a small metal roof over the front door. Otherwise, it will be a waste of time and money to paint them simply because they will just add another color to the palette.
I have been in home prep for MANY YEARS and have a good idea of what a buyer is looking for and how to get TOP DOLLAR for a home. I totally understand that sometimes you have to spend money to make money. And this house has SO MUCH freaking POTENTIAL that I’m crossing my fingers that it jumps on my crazy train…and it does. FREAKIN’ HALLELUJAH, I love my customers.
My client previously hired someone to select the green trim for the shutters and front door, but I believe the consultant was free as a John Deere representative….
Front Door Colors For Brick Houses
They also brought color to the back of the house on the French doors. And while I would recommend a larger black lamp next to the door, the overall look is still very good…
I’m so grateful when a customer listens to me when I’m just trying to help. If I get the idea to spend MORE money, it’s always SMART money, and I’m sure it will pay off big.

They may lack knowledge and know exactly what they are doing and what they are afraid of. I can totally understand, I wanted to give you some tips on exterior house painting that I hope will give you a little more knowledge and put you at ease. Whether you’re building one or renting one, these tips will help.
Can You Paint Brick?
Preparation is a very important part of getting your painted exterior brick right. Be sure to clean the brick with a cleaning compound before doing anything. If the brick is not very dirty, a hose, a brush with stiff bristles and soapy water will do.
After cleaning, inspect and fill all cracks with acrylic sealant. It needs time to dry before applying exterior paint. Now you want to make sure and cover all the windows and doors with plastic. Use multiple coats if necessary and painter’s tape to hold it in place.
As with any project, having the right tools will make your workflow smoother and easier. You want to make sure you have a sprayer or roller that can cover a large area at once. We recommend using a sprayer. This will reduce the working time, it will be easier to get into all the joints and it will be easier in general. But make sure you spray from all angles to make sure the paint gets into every nook and cranny of the brick. This is especially important if you have grout joints like our house.
If you use a sprayer, you still need a hand brush for drippy or hard-to-reach areas. Always remember that before applying a second or third coat you want to make sure and let the paint dry for at least 4-6 hours.

We have a Graco Magnum and love it. If you’re going to do a DIY painting project like this, a good paint sprayer is a must.
It is also very important to use the correct type of paint on the exterior brick. We recommend using mineral-based paint or latex paint made specifically for masonry. Both are good, but the mineral foundation should last longer.
I don’t think it takes much to understand this, but before you start painting, consider the weather conditions. Too cold or too hot are not the best conditions for painting brick. Windy and rainy weather will not work either.
Be sure and check your forecast for a few days of good temperatures and pleasant working conditions. This way it will be better for the painter and the paint will work better on the surface.
Painting The Exterior Of Our House With The Projectcolor App
We had previously painted brick as a DIY on a clapboard house, but decided to hire her to complete this round. Not because it’s hard, we just don’t have time right now. But I admit we spend more money if we rent! When I write a check, I always reconsider this decision. However, with high roofs and hard-to-reach areas, it must have been very difficult to complete this project.
When you do it you only pay for the paint and tools. For a 2,500 square foot DIY home, you’re looking at about $800, including paint and a good sprayer. If you are hiring, labor can be up to $150-$350 per hour. I know, it’s very expensive!
It’s mostly broken down by work, but I wanted to show how they get their figure. They are based on how long it takes, tools, materials (including paint) and of course many workers. An average 2,500 square foot home will cost about $7,500 to paint the entire brick home. That’s $6,900 more than DIY.
It’s been almost a year now and wondering if we are happy with the decision to paint the new brick? yes already! We wouldn’t have it any other way! We love the white painted brick. Although in
