Gauntlet Gray Sherwin Williams Cabinets – Hi friends, this spring has been so busy, I’ve been lazy!… and honestly, the bathroom project has taken a long time! Either way, I’m happy with how it turned out and I’m happy to share the details with you.
The budget is very limited for this project and we don’t want to make any modifications or structural changes. So I got the most out of my investment and I’m very happy with the results.
Gauntlet Gray Sherwin Williams Cabinets
To start this project, I searched Pinterest for templates and images for inspiration. I mean, the amazing things people can do, isn’t that inspiring and crazy?!

Once I decide what look I want to achieve, I create a style panel to get a “feel” and direction on how I want to update the space. So do a little research for projects comparing prices and paint color choices.
The first thing was to prep and paint the cabinets. I wanted a rich warm taupe color and went with Sherwin Williams Gauntlet Grey. I decided to brush the gold accents on my flat iron since I was already in the room. I love the look of this antique gray and how warm it makes the space.
Next, I replaced the cabinet hardware with knobs from Hobby Lobby and bar handles from Home Depot.
So it’s time to paint the walls and I’m in trouble? You can check my Instagram Stories for the process and event details. I decided to go for a soft shimmer look on the walls and chose Sherwin Williams Alabaster. It looked great! I didn’t search the room and worked with the gray cabinets. So I went back to the paint shop. I finished it off with Sherwin Williams Gossamer Veil, a soft creamy shade with a gray undertone. I love the warmth that leaves the room.
Did Someone Say Wallpaper?… * Hip & Humble Style
I also tried painting the color over gray to see if a lighter color would help but it got worse and worse…. back to square one!
I really like the new Gossamer Veil color and used Sherwin Williams Cashmere Satin Paint. There was a silky sheen to the walls, making the room warm and light.
After that, it’s time for charm and character. The first thing that added pop was a gorgeous wallpaper for the feature wall. I chose Joanna Gaines Pink Magnolia Wallpaper in Gray and I love it. I can’t believe what she did to the whole room. In general, wallpaper can be very expensive for a large project. Then choose a feature wall. This way you get a character that doesn’t cost much.
So we decided to add something extra to the room by placing it on the wall opposite the faucet. I love how it adds another unique look to the whole room.
Modern Luxury Interior Design Tip
For lightness, we’ve added this classic gold-plated white fixture. Due to the beautiful nature of the wall I wanted something clean and simple to be close to “seeing” I really appreciate the warmth they add to the wall.
There was a dim light above the tube. So I got a lamp with an adapter that just plugs into the lamp. I mean, it added an even better wow factor than I thought. Makes the room dreamy and romantic.
Also, changing the faucets wasn’t in the budget at the time, but silver/gold faucets just didn’t cut it for the look I wanted. So I decided to spray paint it temporarily. I don’t recommend it at this point as I can’t guarantee how long it will last or hold up, but as a temporary fix it works fine. I didn’t even take them off to paint! I covered the surrounding area with plastic wrap and rubbed petroleum jelly around the faucets to get rid of the spray.
Overall I’m happy with the “temporary fix” but I don’t know how long it will last. Again, being on a budget, I couldn’t replace the glass in the vase, so I painted the same in Rustoleum Antique Gold. I love that they come out in this color.
Cabinet Colors That Will Rejuvenate Your Kitchen
And finally, the biggest con, vinyl flooring! I did it in another bathroom. For more details on the process with tips and advice, visit this post on the painted bathroom floor project.
Then I painted 2 coats of Kilz primer on the floor and let it sit for 24 hours.
I then began the stenciling process in Toledo style actual stenciling using Waverly chalk paint in Colored Elephant. Stencil
A few fun tools and the project is complete. Project planning and preparation are essential, but be prepared to change things if things don’t work out. Sometimes these changes work well for us.

I hope you like this project and I would like to know what you think. Do not hesitate. First, I want to thank you all for your patience with my updated kitchen reveal! Due to COVID-19 the process took longer than expected, but it was worth it!
Before we go full steam ahead, let’s take a look at our kitchen which was built four years ago. We love the large island and open concept facing our living room. At the time, we didn’t have the budget to add a locker, but I knew we eventually would. Last year we saved it so that didn’t happen, and the result is the revelation of 2020!
We quickly discovered, by being creative, that getting our lockers up to the ceiling was no small task! We hired the same crew that built and installed it four years ago because they knew the best way to do it! The shape of the wardrobe made this particularly difficult as we had to make sure the structure fit into the existing wardrobes. I love the attention to detail and always taking measurements to make sure they are right here!
Below is a progress shot before adding crown molding to the upper cabinets.

When entering the upper cabinets, we quickly realized that the current cover design didn’t blend well and looked perfect. We tossed around with a few ideas to make it work, but ultimately decided the new cover style would be the best. After we came up with the new design, they built a new cover from the old one which I instantly fell in love with!
A few weeks before Christmas, the kitchen was finished and painted! We hired professional painters to make sure everything was the same color as the existing cabinets and that the paint was consistent throughout. I took this “behind the scenes” shot to show the care and attention they put into the photo.
This is an addition we added to the breakfast bar before installing the wall units. It’s easier to wait until all the paint is gone. The prep work actually takes longer than the painting, so it makes sense to do it all.
Here is a picture of the progress of the breakfast. We waited to install the drawers and doors to make sure everything was completely dry. I ordered socks from a local company, they were installed using silicone gel and I helped them apply them. After curing for 24 hours, the doors are ready to install.
Kitchen Trends We’re Loving In 2020
I haven’t completely cleared the space yet because we are waiting for our electrician to install the light fixture and place. I couldn’t resist, though, to give this place some Christmas cheer! I love the hideaway drawers and honey colored knobs from Top Knobs. As you can see in this close-up, we’ve added this 7-inch bar to tall cabinet doors. The tools we used for this fix are listed below, including direct links to their websites.
The best way to show you everything is with lots of pictures. I created a mood board using swatches of everything that is used in the kitchen and breakfast area. I love creating these images to help me decide what textures and colors work well together.
I’m still deciding on the right pieces to display on the glass wall units. I realize I’m very picky, so there’s nothing there. I’m looking for great pieces that make a statement!
