Benjamin Moore Thunder is one of our favorite light grays to use outdoors, because it’s such a sophisticated, dark color. Thunder is a warmer light gray with a slightly gray look. In the modern transitions above, our designers used a thunderbolt and painted the finish with Benjamin Moore Steam. Steam’s soft, clean look with a warm shade of light gray sides creates a pleasant aesthetic that we love.

How To Choose Exterior Schemes

Our designers recommend Sherwin Williams Repose Gray for a variety of home styles. Benjamin Moore’s Black Forest Green, like the house above, is one of our favorite exterior colors for gray homes today. Our designers chose a medium Replacement Gray color for the James Hardie Reveal panel system and James Hardie Artisan cladding. This warm gray tone has both austere and undertones of green, a multi-dimensional accent accented in Black Forest Green in front of the door, windows, roof and ceiling. Woodtone cladding increases the depth of color and creates an earthy palette that is so appealing in a modern home.

We cannot talk about the best exterior color schemes for gray homes today, without mentioning the dynamic duo that is Benjamin Moore in Chelsea Gray and Seapearl. The urban gray color, Chelsea Gray, adds depth to the exterior of the house. Our designers recommended Benjamin Moore Seapearl for stones, trim, crowns and crowns. Subtle off-white Seapearl is the perfect companion against Chelsea Grey.

If you’re going for a bolder aesthetic, this combination is sure to be one of your go-to colors for today’s gray exteriors. Benjamin Moore’s Iron Iron is a rich charcoal gray. Works best with light or dark accents. People like me combine the two darker colors; the results are so welcome. In rendering the above, our designers chose Benjamin Moore Black for the finish. The wood flooring and accents add another notch to the bold vibe of this home and really add a bit of curb appeal.

Looking for a modern gray exterior color scheme that incorporates greige? Look no further. Benjamin Moore’s Revere Pewter is one of our absolute favorite greige shades. This bold shade can look warm or cool depending on the natural light. In the rendering above, our designers chose to whitewash the brick with Revere Pewter and use Benjamin Moore Black Beauty for trim and accents. The combination of greige and black provides contrast. We especially love Benjamin Moore’s Galapagos Turquoise shed on the front door.

Home Exterior Paint Color Ideas & Tips

Revere Pewter not only looks great when placed on a sideboard, but it also makes a great sideboard painting. Using neither side, our designers chose a darker shade of clasing to create a contrast. Benjamin Moore’s Graphite is an eye-catching, deep charcoal shade that pairs beautifully with the softer shades of Revere Pewter. The contrast between these two paint colors accentuates the different textures in this house, creating a nice contrast.

Some of our favorite exterior colors for today’s homes include gray as a bold color tone as a companion to gray. In the rendering above, our consultants suggested Benjamin Moores Kendall Charcoal for the siding and Sherwin Williams Shoji White for the trim. Incorporating an exciting color palette using Benjamin Moore Wasabi on the front door creates a creative aesthetic.

Looking for a bolder and more modern vibe to your home exterior? Graphite is one of our favorite colored carbons. It pairs well with lighter colors like Benjamin Moore’s Galapagos Turquoise. Incorporating color into a home with a dark exterior is the perfect way to take your home design to the next level. Our designers also incorporated Reve Pewter accents in this home, proving that sometimes it’s best to create a gray color scheme that includes more than one shade of gray.

Gray Exterior House Color Schemes

The best exterior color scheme for gray homes today is a medium gray with black accents. Benjamin Moore’s Amherst Gray is one of our favorite shades of gray. This shade leans on the darker side and gives a new look to the roof in the house shown above. Instead of going hard, our designers chose a near black Sherwin Williams Caviar for the finish. The gray stone that surrounds the home complements the monochromatic look while creating a multi-level look.

We always recommend sampling and trying paint colors before deciding. Factors such as natural lighting, undertones, and your fixtures and fittings will have a big impact on how your exterior color will look. Our friends at Samplize offer extra large 9″ x 14.75″ peel and stick paint swaps for our favorite exteriors. Order your “Real Punishment, No Mes” samples from Samplize here.

Gray is often thought of as a color between white and black, but it’s not that simple. There are so many different aspects of gray, and not just whether the shade is light, medium or dark. Benjamin Moore’s Deep River is really vibrant because it is dark with a blue silence. In the upper rendering the intensity favoring the Upper River side is complemented by the warmth of Real Pewter.

While we love how the two darker shades work together, we also love the contrast that the darker shade provides with even white accents. Like River Deep, Benjamin Moore’s The Raccoon Thief is a dark, rich gray with no blue. Our designers had to win a rich and famous favorite, the recent Sherwin Williams Alabaster. The softness and warmth of alabaster absolve is the perfect companion to the deep cleansing of the outer skin.

The Sherwin Williams Gray area is a warm, inviting greige that is beautifully displayed on the side in the rendering above. Our designers used Benjamin Moore’s Cheating Heart favor to create depth and mood. The trim, front door, and accent feature Benjamin Moore Black Beauty, which adds even more dimension to the color scheme of this design.

Exterior Paint Ideas For Inviting Curb Appeal

Gray isn’t the only intermediate tone you get when you mix black and white. It can vary from almost white to black. It is grey, brown, grey, charcoal and grey, with different shades. We love the complexity of the exterior! Thanks to its variations, gray offers incredible color scheme possibilities. Whether you want to be discreet or have a home that stands out in your neighborhood, the gray area has a color palette for you.
