) has become a favorite color over the past five years, along with Benjamin Moore’s other popular gray, Stonington Gray. If you’re looking for a gray that adds a bit of light but still has a gray undertone, this might be the paint color you’re looking for.
The Best Wall Paint Colors For Kitchens With White Cabinets
Over the past year, cool tones have declined with grey, gray and blue being the most popular. Of course, many of you still prefer cool gray. They have a clean, modern look…
Gray Owl is a light gray that reads neutrally against gray walls. Gray is one of Benjamin Moore’s most popular colors and brings a fresh, modern look to any room.
The gray owl has a soft green tone that appears blue in some lights. Green is considered a warmer color than other “cool” grays, but it still looks like a cool neutral gray on a wall.
When paired with SW Extra White, you’ll find Gray Owl to be a clean, neutral gray. It is lighter in color than Repose Gray (the background colour, the famous Sherwin-Williams warm gray) and has no warmth rating.
Benjamin Moore Gray Owl Color Review
On top, Gray Owl has a stronger green hue as it pairs with this year’s nautical driftwood. For a sophisticated look with neutrals or blue-grays, pair them with plenty of bright white decor in a light room.
The Gray Owl has an LRV of 62. The Light Reflectance Value (LRV) is a number that indicates how light or dark a color is on a scale of 0-100. The closer the number to 100, the brighter (shiny white) it is. The closer the number is to 0, the darker it is.
At 65, the grays are saturated enough to stand out, yet light enough not to feel overwhelming. If your room is really dark and you want it to cheer you up, it may not be bright enough. Try Benjamin Moore white paper instead.
Gray owls do well with a lighter beach vibe, so whites, greens, and blues work well together. If you’re looking to fill an accent wall or adjoining room, the Benjamin Moore Beach Mirror creates a beautiful coastal setting, or adds a nice contrast when paired with the unique tone of the BM Philipsburg Blue Gray Owl.

If you want to rock a really modern look, black wallpaper is really cool when done right.
Stonington Gray is another popular gray from Benjamin Moore. If you are choosing between the two, there are a few differences that can help you decide.
The Gray Owl is a slightly lighter color than the Stonington Gray with a more prominent greenish tone. Gray Owl has a light, casual, almost coastal feel to it, while Stonington Gray is a bit darker and leans toward a cooler pale blue.
There is a reason for the popularity of gray owls. If you’re looking for a fresh, clean gray for your walls, you’ll love it. As with other shades of grey, don’t let the tone intimidate you. This is what makes color palettes so exciting!
The Most Popular Cabinet Paint Colors
It works well with certain tones of the more commonly used gray and white woods. In fact, what I can tell you is that it works great in all shades and in a wide variety of lighting conditions. This isn’t always the case with light and medium grays like this one, which makes the gray owl special!

The gray owl has an LRV of about 66, so it’s pretty soft, so it’s not white, but it’s nowhere near mid-range. He sits very happily in the middle. Don’t know what an LRV is? You really need to read this.

If it’s not dark, wash it on a well-lit wall. Any paint color works the same way. However, if the room is dark, it may feel a little flat if the room’s lighting is not enough.
Depending on how it looks on the wall it can be a little tricky! This basically means that ICY is not a cool gray color. It sure has softness without being too warm.

Undertones Most modern shades of gray can easily be classified as one of the three shades of gray, and gray owls are no exception!
A gray owl wants to make a green noise, as shown in the following image. However, like most grays, it can easily be overshadowed by decorative color (the Sherwin Williams Alabaster in this photo), effects, reflections, and other interior decors.
So the gray owls don’t wander off and faithfully mate with the green noise. Before long, you can expect the green to subside and be replaced by a straight turquoise or blue. As the following picture …
It may vary from wall to wall as shown in the images below. The left side is a little green and the right side is more blue!

The Gray Owl is one of the most versatile of all grays when it comes to white and can take on everything from cool white to creamy warm white! The Sherwin Williams Alabaster is featured in some of the photos above, but I recommend going with Benjamin Moore White Dove, Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace, and Sherwin Williams Pure White.
Maybe…but there are a lot of things to consider when choosing an exterior paint color. For Gray Owl’s DEPTH/LRV, you need to consider if it is strong enough to withstand strong southern light. You’ll also want to make sure the sound matches your ceiling, stone, or brick.
