This updated home was built in 1968. Color Janitor chose navy blue for exterior siding and garage door colors (Serwin Williams Cyberspace) for a fresh new look. The colors appear three shades lighter on the outside, so we chose cream instead of white (Sherwin Williams West Highland White) for the trim. Even though it’s white, the cream color doesn’t look harsh like a primer. On the second floor, blinds were removed and decorations were added to the windows. Illustrators, New Morning, Inc. They did an amazing job!
The front door was painted SW Cyberspace to match the family’s virus paint job. Shutters, porch roof and trim were painted SW Westhighland Cream White to update and brighten the front porch.
Warm beige looks creamy and perfect in this timeless, flawless palette. Although mid-toned wool looks dark on paper, when used outdoors it appears creamy and takes on the undertones of white grout.

Black shutters and front doors are a classic choice and look fresh with a white or cream exterior.
Choose cream trim, columns and garages instead of white to avoid the look of primer. Cream colors look lighter on the outside and match better with clay red bricks. Darken doors and blinds.
It looks unnaturally bright with pure white bricks that have a muted surface. Red may look good, but most people hate it. Just stay away from red doors, accents or decorations.
Fresh colors look out of place next to clay red bricks. Use muted, earthy versions of the colors instead. That’s why it’s better to work with a professional exterior paint consultant.

Bold, rich colors can liven up your home. This two-story home features one of our favorite dark grays and one of this year’s trendiest paint colors, cast iron, brick, and vertical tiling by Benjamin Moore. Benjamin Moore’s classic gray, which is part of the off-white color collection, provides an attractive combination on a horizontal wall.
Beautiful Exterior Home Design Trends
Sometimes you don’t have to go all the way to black bricks to embrace a darker color. For example, this brick house comes to life with a fresh coat of Iron Mountain by Benjamin Moore. To create a subtle contrast, the windows are closed a few shades darker than the soft and inviting Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter and Iron Mountain gray paint.
Bring your home into the 21st century with a modern twist like Inkwell by Sherwin Williams. As you can see, Inkwell is a moody blue on dark color that adds a fresh dimension to a traditional home. Plus, just a hint of Benjamin Moore’s Revere Pewter on the trim makes this brick home stylish and sophisticated. (Note that the first option above involves whitewash – as with these clients, we can provide you with a virtual rendering of your home’s exterior in two completely different color palettes to help you decide!)
You can’t expect a traditional style home to thrive in a charcoal shade. But as you can see in this example, Benjamin Moore emphasizes different home design textures on both the Deep River siding and the brick. In the cut, Benjamin Moore’s Simply White proves to be a bold asset. With a blue cut stone driveway, this traditional colonial home is incredibly charming. Don’t rely on reviving exterior window trim as a means of creating a spectacular curb, either.
Slightly softer (but still incredibly dark), Sherwin Williams Iron Ore is what we call a “subtle black.” Seen here on brick and siding, it complements the home’s rich wood accents. A touch of Benjamin Moore black paint on the window trim enhances the modern touch.
Red Brick House Design Updates With Photos
A fresh coat of cool, moody gray can instantly update your home’s exterior. Benjamin Moore’s Candle Coal, seen here on brick, is a great example of this. On the deck, black by Benjamin Moore creates dimension, while a bluestone walkway serves as a pleasant welcome. Benjamin Moore’s Kendall Charcoal is an earthy shade with blue undertones that pairs well with organic materials such as wood, rock and stone.
When it comes to creating dimensions, a black brick house looks great in combination with pale colors. In this example, the white is painted on a summer night by Benjamin Moore and jumps on a seahorse decoration by Benjamin Moore. You’ll notice that Benjamin Moore’s Rockport Gray on the top creates a stronger sense of depth, while Benjamin Moore’s Onyx on the blinds adds to the mix. Together, these shades show incredible power to diversify your palette.
