How To Paint A Brick Fireplace
Painting a brick fireplace doesn’t have to be done every day, but there are a few steps to follow to achieve a beautiful painted brick fireplace look. The following steps will take you from preparation to the final product.
Even a well-maintained oven can be too dirty to paint, so a little preparation and cleaning is in order. Begin by removing the oven surround, if any; This usually requires loosening a few screws on the inside of the enclosure.
With the environment removed and all the bricks exposed, apply a brush and make the bricks and stones look cohesive. It removes debris, dirt and loose mortar that can affect the paint job. Use a wet vacuum to clean the dust.
With the dust removed, it’s time to clean the area to remove dust, chemicals, oils and other materials that can damage the brick. Put on some rubber gloves, a respirator and a pair of safety glasses and mix the trisodium phosphate solution according to the directions. Use a bucket and sponge to scrub the bricks.

After all loose debris, soot and dirt have been removed, allow the oven to dry for a few hours. At this point, use masking tape and tape to protect walls, hearts, shirts, and other items you don’t want painted. Painting a brick fireplace is straightforward, since you’ll spend time priming and sealing it. When the sealer dries, wash the brush with soap and water. Also, replace the liner in the paint bowl and replace the new sleeve over the paint.

Add about ¼ gallon of acrylic latex paint to the paint, then use a brush to paint into the joints, then with the paint. Go slower with this step than with the sealer, because if you use a white or lighter color than the sealer, it’s easy to miss the spot.

If you don’t clean your brick properly, your paint won’t look good and will fade over time. I vacuumed mine and used a degreaser; However, if yours is particularly dirty, you can use a toothbrush to scrub first.
Seal any areas you don’t want to paint, such as adjacent walls. I also recommend running the tape down where the brick meets the floor if possible. This will prevent the paint from getting onto your plastic on your floor. Then completely remove the tape from the floor – don’t leave a gap in your vinyl. I always like to cover the entire floor I’m going to be working on with plastic wrap and a cloth on top. This ensures that nothing passes through and damages the floor!
It is important to use a good primer before painting as it helps the paint adhere to the brick. I use a special primer for masonry called Locson by Sherwin Williams; However, you can use Kills model. To apply the primer, use a stiff paint brush to push the paint into the mortar and into the many cracks in the brick. Then use the smaller one to cover the flat part of the brick. I just used one coat of primer and followed the dry time instructions on the can.
Paint the brick with latex paint using the same method as the primer. You can use any sheen on your brick and while a glossy finish will make your brick a little easier to clean, a matte or semi-matte finish will look better on the brick. I used satin on mine and I’m happy with it! I used two coats of color on top of the primer. (Colour: Benjamin Moore Plain White)
Tips For Painting Fireplace Brick White
If you want to replace your curtain now like I did, it can be removed very easily by pulling it off with a hammer or crowbar (my husband prefers to use his bare hands, but it’s also hulk , so take it for what it is. value). If you want a cheaper option, you can use pine and it costs around $10; However, in my opinion the maple is much prettier and better overall! I have a custom mixer in our kitchen that fits our hood; However, you can use a stain color to match the style of your home.
