Saving a PowerPoint presentation to images is something we can do if we want to use slides as images. However, in some situations we want to save the shape as an image and have a 100% transparent background.

The bad news is that the Save PowerPoint to Pictures option (in the File dialog box) doesn’t allow us to save a transparent background when saving slides. But the good news is that we can use Save As Image option in any image or size with 100% transparency.

For this example, let’s take a look at one of the templates available at SlideModel.com, one of my favorite PowerPoint template providers. They offer high-quality PowerPoint templates that are 100% editable, giving presenters or designers “complete control” to adapt slides to their own needs. In this example I want to export a world map image with 100% transparency so that later we can use it to create other images using Photoshop, but this can be done in other graphics tools or serve other purposes.
Once the image is selected, we can right-click on the image or shape and then select the “Save Image As…” option in PowerPoint.
A new file dialog box will appear where you can specify the output directory and file name to use. Here you need to select PNG Portable Network Graphics Format *.png as the Save As Type option.

Once saved, the output image remains transparent and can be used in other images. In this case, we’ll use it to create a new image in Photoshop as shown below.
For this purpose, I inserted a PNG image with transparency into a new image created in Photoshop, and as you can see, the world map retains full transparency and is inserted as a new layer in Photoshop’s editor.
The same technique applies to other image types, for example if you select multiple shapes as shown in the image below.
