In the File>Export As dialog… there is a checkbox for transparent background… is it checked or not?
This selection when you choose File>Quick Export as PNG – so make sure you choose File>Export as… and select .png in the export dialog.
Added to answer the OP’s comment – but with caution – please do not add new questions to the comments. Generally considered fake here at GDSE.
At the top of the answer I mentioned how to get a transparent background in your .png vs. a white background, because that’s what you were obviously asking – you added a secondary constraint in a comment to my answer that there is a misunderstanding. . in this: that you also want to crop or crop only the borders of your figure – and maybe if you pointed to “white space” in your DP, you didn’t mean to ask about white and transparency, but maybe just a question about “wasted compositional space”… this is best handled in Photoshop before exporting the composition using the Image>Trim command… Transparent Pixels.

Saving PowerPoint presentations as an image is something we can do when we want to use slides as images. However, in some situations we want to save the shape as an image and keep the background 100% transparent.
The bad news is that saving PowerPoint as images (in the File dialog) does not allow us to hide the transparent background when saving the slides. But the good news is that we can use the Save As Image option on a graphic or form to save it with 100% transparency.
How Do I Export The Image With A Transparent Background?
For this example, let’s look at one of the templates available at SlideModel.com, one of my favorite PowerPoint template providers. They provide high quality PowerPoint templates that are 100% editable, so the presenter or designer has “full control” to customize the slides to their needs. This is definitely one of the main advantages of using editable templates and graphics created with PowerPoint forms from other providers or even free non-editable PowerPoint templates.
In this example, I want to export a world map graphic with 100% transparency so that we can use it later to create another graphic, in this case using Photoshop, but it can be done in any other graphic tool or for any other purpose.
Once the graphic is selected, we can right-click the graphic or shape and then select “Save as Picture…” in PowerPoint.
A new file dialog will appear where you can specify the output directory and file name to use. Here you should select PNG Portable Network Graphics Format *.png as the Save as type option.

After saving, the output image will remain transparent and can be used in any other graphics. In this case, we will use it to prepare a new graphic in Photoshop, as shown below.
For this, I placed a PNG image with transparency in a new image that I created in Photoshop, and as you can see, the world map remains completely transparent and placed as a new layers in the Photoshop editor.
The same technique can be used for other types of graphics, such as when multiple shapes are selected, as shown in the image below.

Next, we need to set the DPI. Generally this should be true. If you are using Inkscape version 0.92 or later, the default resolution is 96 dpi. If you are using an older version, the default is 90 dpi. However, you can check this yourself by checking the graphic size in the Export menu and making sure it fits the actual graphic size on your canvas.
Finally, choose a destination to save your transparent PNG by clicking the Export As button, name the file whatever you want, and then click Export.

If you’re exporting your PNG based on the selection option, be aware that anything inside the bounding box of the selection will be exported with it, so make sure your graphic is far enough away from any other objects.
Since the red circle intersects the bounding box around the logo, this intersection area will also be exported.
