We are happy to announce that we have achieved this goal and today 98% of the wood used in our products is either FSC certified or recycled.

Forests help balance the atmosphere, clean the air we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They preserve wildlife diversity and provide homes for local communities that depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on Earth need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many ecosystem services on which we depend. The annual supply of approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood from 50 countries has a significant impact on the global forest and forestry industry and is largely responsible for the positive impact on timber harvesting. Responsible wood harvesting and forest management ensure meeting the needs of people who depend on the forest, sustainable operation of companies, protection of the forest ecosystem and improvement of biodiversity.

We work with strict industry standards to grow responsible forests. We do not allow wood in our supply chain to come from forest areas that are illegal or have high conservation values, or from forest areas with social conflicts. Before starting work, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet the critical wood resource requirements. All suppliers must source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are regularly audited and non-compliant suppliers are subject to immediate corrective action. Working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have achieved our goal of more sustainable resources by 2020. Today, more than 98% of the wood used in products is either FSC certified or recycled.

As the pressure on the world’s forests and environment increases due to uncontrolled agriculture, infrastructure development and illegal logging, it is time to adopt a comprehensive strategy to protect and sustain these important resources for future generations. The Positive Forests Program 2030 aims to improve forest management, improve biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of forest-dependent people throughout the supply chain and promote innovation in the use of timber. BILLY’S Bookcase has been a customer favorite for over 40 years, but even the old stalwarts need an update to keep up with the times. We took a closer look at BILLY and came up with some ideas. One of them means more efficient use of materials, and the other makes it easier to assemble and disassemble the library.

“BILLY was introduced in 1979 and has helped millions of people organize books and other things at home. But the world has changed a lot since then, and even popular retailers have to adapt to new demands and trends. do.” says Umut Ates, one of our partners.

Instead of a thin layer of wood, BILLY now has a hard surface of durable paper foil. “The boards have different printed patterns that resemble natural wood, which means less wood is needed to make each bill,” says Amut. But one thing that could possibly improve is how the book’s story is put together and separated. “You used to have to drive about 50 little nails to hold the back in place, but now that’s history. Instead, you screw the back in without tools,” explains Amoth. It also makes it easier to disassemble the cat without damaging it if you move or want to resell your library. “Evolution has made the cat much more capable – he can keep up with the changing conditions of life – and I wouldn’t be surprised if this stock character is as popular in 40 years as it is today.”
