Solid wood is one of our favourite materials and part of our Scandinavian heritage. It is also a timeless material with multiple uses. Regardless of the type of wood, it is durable, beautiful, renewable and recyclable. We strive to use this raw material in the smartest and most efficient way to avoid waste, and we also invest in facilities and logistics so that we can increase our use of reclaimed wood. We are pleased to announce that we have achieved this and today over 98% of the wood used in our products is FSC certified or recycled.

Forests help maintain atmospheric balance, clean the air we breathe, and are part of the water cycle. They nurture wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities that depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of the plants and animals on earth need forests to survive. They provide food, fuel, wood and many other ecosystem services on which we depend. Sourcing around 19 million cubic meters of logs each year from around 50 countries, it has a significant impact on the world’s forests and wood industries, and has a huge responsibility to positively influence the way wood is supplied. Timber sourcing and responsible forest management ensure that the needs of forest-dependent people are met, companies can operate sustainably, forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity improved.

In it, we employ strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry practices. We do not allow the use of timber from illegal forest areas or areas of high conservation value or forest areas with social conflict in our supply chain. We have IKEA kitchens (as you all know). It’s white (on a white background on a white background). However, we added some non-IKEA customizations and needed to match them with “IKEA White”.

I know you can take drawer tops or something to most hardware stores and they will do the color matching. But I’ve heard it doesn’t have to be as reliable as it should be — it matches Home Depot’s painted aisle fluorescent lights, but it actually lives on in the home’s lights.

I asked online and got several suggestions: Glidden Parchment White and Benjamin Moore Simply White.

When I decided I needed a dresser for my room, I decided to buy some Glidden Parchment White paint and thought I could use the leftovers from that project as a test batch.

I also found a store that sells Benjamin Moore paint (which is not even available at the big store we go to four times over the weekend, besides being expensive). I have a Benjamin Moore Simply White tester (a pint!).

We had some leftover IKEA whiteboard code, so I did a test. I glued and painted the ends and left about 1/3 of the way unpainted so I could see how they fit together.

The left side is painted with Glidden. It’s a bit grey. On the right is Benjamin Moore’s paint. This is good enough. The tester is matte and doesn’t fit very well, but I think it’s mostly because it’s not shiny enough. If you move so that the light doesn’t catch the reflection, the line between them pretty much disappears. Look?

The left third (Glidden paint) still has clear lines, but the right third basically blends in the middle. Did you know that the IKEA Hemnes 8 dresser I talked about last week is a lot bigger than I thought? Well, I also want to draw something else to match it. But what color are the white IKEA Hemnes?

I did some googling and the most popular paint color match is Benjamin Moore’s Acadia White, OC-38. But I wanted to see it for myself – a good thing I did because the Acadia White isn’t as close to a white IKEA as I’d like it to be.

I went to Benjamin Moore, Home Depot and Lowes and collected all the white/neutral paints I could find. It’s very difficult because without the dresser in front of you, the paint will peel
