Shockingly Simple Design Rules Joanna Gaines Swears By For A Beautiful Home
There are many green kitchen ideas to inspire, from rich woods of emerald green to shades of sage. How do we turn green
Joanna’s client Kim recently moved to Waco from California with her dog, Hank, to work at Magnolia Network. After converting his beachfront apartment into a three-bedroom 1930s home, he wanted a clean, clear plan for his “comfortable” home.
When she and Jo sat down to brainstorm each room’s interior, Jo came up with the idea of a green kitchen. “We thought we’d make this green wardrobe really cool,” he says, showing Kim’s samples from two different shades of green.
“That, I have to say, usually scares me,” Kim replied. “The color works a little bit, if only because it’s outside my comfort zone.” Matched with a melted dark blue and green, which will be fitted with brass levers and cabinet door handles.
Fixer Upper Kitchen Looks For Less
Green cabinets work in the kitchen because they let in plenty of natural light and look out over the plants in the yard. Green hues match the natural colors outside the windows and the rest of the room is pure white, from the walls and ceiling to the curtains and even the fireplace fabric.
There are also many natural woods, with traditional hardwoods giving way to green cabinets. In general, the green tone is presented in a subtle way – the green cabinet creates interest without the glowing change you get if you use bolder tones.
In the past, the kitchen was very dark and felt small. In the opening, Joe says the darker green helps free up floor space.
If, like Kim, you have a kitchen that overlooks your backyard, green is best. Elsewhere in the kitchen, stick to whites, warm metals like copper or bronze, and wooden beams if you’re worried they’re too much.
