Magnolia Paint Color Palette – When you’re trying to redecorate your home but can’t figure out which colors go well together, things can get frustrating. Especially if you bought a house and every room has 1980s floral wallpaper like mine. It can be a pain to go back and forth from the paint store with colored spots. I feel like I have a swatch of every color at some point in the minds of people trying to pick paint colors. I ended up browsing Pinterest, looking for inspirational rooms and trying to find a color that looked like this. Of course, every paint color will look different in your room, but I think it’s pretty easy to visualize when you see a color on someone else’s walls, right? And since I’m a huge Fixer Upper fan, I decided to put together a whole house color scheme inspired by Joanna Gaines. So we talk about Joanna’s favorite paint colors and how she combines colors to create homes that are open, inviting and fluidly transformative.

So let’s talk about Joanna’s old favorites first. I want to share these first because they are mine too. I have used these colors in my own home and can tell you they are just as beautiful as the fixer uppers. At the beginning of Fixer Upper, Joanna was really drawn to dusty blues and greens. Very light, airy, cottage type colors that I love. So here’s a whole house color scheme based on Joanna’s favorites at Fixer.

Let’s start with the finish color. An easy way to make your home more uniform is to use a decorative color. Joanna often uses Sherwin Williams Alabaster for trim and sometimes Sherwin Williams Pear White. Use one color for your home decor and you’ll have a home where rooms flow from one to the next.

Every home needs a neutral wall color. Joanna likes to use gray in the main living areas of her homes. Her favorites include Sherwin Williams Mindful Grey, Oyster Pearl and Passive Grey. Repose Gray is a shade lighter than Mindful and looks great in an open plan living space. My friend chose this color for her open bedroom and she loves it. Take a paint sample before painting each wall. 🙂

Let’s move on to better accent colors. Joanna says she prefers airy blues and greens. I can say without a doubt that Sherwin Williams Sea Salt is one of the most beautiful paints I have ever used. It’s no wonder why it’s such a popular color with Joanna and other designers. It’s the perfect brown and looks great in any room. I have used it in the bathroom and laundry room.

Sherwin Williams Comfort Gray isn’t really too gray in my opinion. This is another dusty blue green. And I love it. Joanna uses this color in living rooms and bedrooms that require a bit of bold color, but this color is never overpowering. Perfect for the living room or office.

The master bedroom is the perfect setting for Sherwin Williams’ intellectual gray. This color has a nice warmth to it, especially against the wooden floor. Joanna used this color in her bedroom and I can’t get enough. However, be careful, if your bedroom does not have enough natural light, this color can be wrong.

When Joanna decides to stray more outside of the neutral space, it usually looks beautiful in large bedrooms or kitchen cabinets with a rich lilac blue color.

Interior Design Ideas

Chip and Joanna Gaines decorated this master bathroom with new gray paint and a bracket-top accent wall. A large mirror is made of wood to match the accent wall, and a contemporary light fixture illuminates the double vanity with marble countertops and rectangular vessels. The original clawfoot tub was retained and remodeled, and new tile flooring was installed.

If a light gray doesn’t cut it, a deeper shade of gray will do. It adds just the right amount of ambiance and looks great with unfinished wood.
