Most Popular Interior Paint Colors 2020 Sherwin Williams – It’s been a few years since I’ve updated Sherwin Williams’ most popular and best-selling colors, and today I wanted to share with you an updated list of the best-selling colors and how they look on the walls. When looking for a specific paint color, I always like to start by looking at my favorite colors because there is a very good reason why certain colors look better. If you’re looking for a nice and reliable color, this list is a great place to start when you start your color search.
While I’ve worked with most of the colors on the list, I wanted to break the list down further and highlight a few dozen colors that have been the most versatile and reliable in my color/design consulting experience. For each color I highlight, I share the “pros” and “cons” of the color to help you get a better feel for the colors. I hope this list helps you the next time you’re looking for the right color.
Most Popular Interior Paint Colors 2020 Sherwin Williams
Before we get to the favorites on the list, below is a list of the 50 most popular and best-selling Sherwin Williams colors.
The 5 White Exterior Paint Colors We Tested
Sherwin Williams Repose Gray is probably the most popular paint color on the planet right now across all paint companies. We don’t know for sure because we don’t have that information, but I’d be surprised if Repose isn’t number one right now. Repose is a lovely warm pale gray that I recommend a lot to my clients as I think it’s close to perfect as a whole house color and light neutral.
Pros: I especially love Repose because not only does it look beautiful during the day, but it’s one of the few colors that also looks beautiful at night with the lights on. No loud noises and very flexible.
If you want to know more about the best places to use Repose Gray with more example rooms, you can see my Color Spotlight on Repose Gray here.
On a side note, every color in the Repose Gray palette (range 244) is on the bestseller list and I’m not surprised as this range is amazing. They are all very versatile and amazing colors and you will see a few of them today at my place.
The Best Sherwin Williams White Paint Colors In 2020
Very close, sea salt is also one of the most popular colors in the plant. When I asked readers on the Creative Exchange Facebook page what their favorite paint color was, they overwhelmingly voted for Sherwin Williams Sea Salt. If you’re new to sea salt and want a bold, dark color, look no further than sea salt.
Pros: In the right light, sea salt is one of the most beautiful shades of green/blue/grey and is so soothing.
Cons: Sea salt is a chameleon-like color and looks stunning in certain lighting (usually in areas with lots of natural light). It is very important to choose this color first. This color looks good in places with little natural light (bathrooms, bedrooms, etc.).
If you want to see more examples of sea salt in a room, you can check out my Color Spotlight post here.
Sherwin Williams Color Trends 2020
Worldly Gray is another reliable warm light neutral gray that is very close to Repose Grey, but a little warmer and a little darker. I often recommend this color to clients for a whole house color with lots of natural light, as the rest of the white can show up in lots of natural light.
Cons: World Gray looks darker in low natural light and can look a little heavier/darker than a traditional light warm gray.
Interestingly, Ice Crushed is a newer color for me, and I used it in the living room in my house because Repose was a little lighter than I wanted in that space. I really fell in love with it and highly recommend it. Ice Crushed is slightly lighter, slightly cooler and more toned than Repose Grey.
Pros: Ice Crushed is a stunning light gray that sits somewhere between light and low to medium. They are hard to find among neutral colors.

Cons: Crushed ice looks better in natural light. Bathrooms, laundry rooms, etc. not very suitable for
Below I have crushed ice on the walls of my living room, and for reference, there is one large window in this space.
My friend Julie used crushed ice in her great room in her new house that was just being built and I love how it turned out. FII, the space on the ground floor has a lot of natural light.
Dorian Gray is another great neutral warm gray that I would say is a mid-tone. I used it on a client’s vent cover and it was beautiful. Dorian is also a great neutral wardrobe color.
Best Sherwin Williams White Paint Color For Interior Trim (4 Great Choices)
Pros: Dorian is the same color as Repose Grey, but two shades darker. Very versatile color on walls or cabinets.
Cons: Too much natural light can make Dorian look cold and cool gray instead of warm gray.
If you’re looking for something a shade darker than a warm neutral gray midtone, Swallowtail is a great color. Ideal for interior doors and wardrobes. I’m afraid it might be too dark for the color of the whole room, but it would be great as an accent wall.
Pros: Dovetail is the safest color if you want to contrast an area (like an interior door) without going dark.
Paint Colour Review: Sherwin Williams Sea Salt, Undertones & More!
I’ve had a few clients recently asking for a very neutral color idea and I really like Drift of Mist because it’s a very subtle color that I think is very neutral.
Pros: Drift of Mist is one of those rare colors to use when you don’t want white, but you don’t want a lot of color.
Cons: There is a muted yellow color (very little). I don’t like any yellow in my colors and I think a little yellow softens this color to white and I would use it in my home.
I wasn’t surprised to see Sherwin Williams Peppercorn on the best seller list because the color is beautiful! It’s a deep dark gray that’s so deep it’s perfect for accent walls, closets, and very small spaces like this tiny powder room we saw last year at the SLC Parade of Homes.
The 10 Best Paint Colours To Create Calm And Reduce Stress
Pros: Pepper is one of the most reliable dark colors. It always looks good when used on walls, cabinets and accent walls.
Even darker, Sherwin Williams Iron Ore is an all-star color and a beautiful dark gray with brown that has become a popular interior door, cabinet and trim color. Really amazing color!
Pros: Iron Ore is a beautiful color full of depth. Iron ore is currently transforming underutilized space.
Downside: Even though the tools are white, you have to sample the iron ore outside to make sure they match the color of the house. As for the interior, it does not cause many problems, but it emits bright tones from the outside.
Popular Sherwin Williams Beige Paint Colors
Very similar to Iron Ore, this is another very dark color that is on the best seller list and on her Black Fox list. While Iron Ore is a dark shade of gray, Black Fox is a very dark brown.
Pros: A deep dark brown that is a great color for walls, cabinets and exterior trim. Very flexible.
My go-to black color for my clients is Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black. I think black is best because even though it’s close to true black, the brown/gray tone helps to soften the black so it’s not so stark.
Advantages: very flexible and reliable paint inside or outside. If you are looking for a great black, I would start here because it is such a beautiful color.
All The Color Of The Year 2020 Predictions, So Far
Cons: I can’t think of any issues with this color. Very reliable, and the gray/brown shade complements almost any color when used as an exterior trim/accent color.
I have used Mindful Gray for many years in client spaces and in my own home. I think Mindful Gray is one of the most beautiful and reliable warm grays and I use it mostly for cabinets.
Pros: A very versatile warm gray that looks good on cabinets and exterior trim. A little heavy for a warm gray as a wall color, but still nice if you’re looking for a more neutral warm gray wall color.
Cons: In spaces with lots of natural light, Mindful Gray can cool down, but still looks great. However, if you have a lot of natural light and are looking for a warm gray that lasts
