Knowing which colors will work best together can be a bit overwhelming. Especially if you just bought a house and every room has 1980s floral wallpaper like me! It can be a pain to walk back and forth from the paint store, even with color labels. I feel like I have every painting that people know at one point when I was trying to pick a paint color. What I was doing was navigating Pinterest, finding inspirational rooms, and finding pictures similar to it. Of course, every paint color will look different in your room, but I guess it’s easier to see a color when you see it on someone else’s wall, right? And since I’m a huge Fixer Upper fan, I decided to paint the whole house inspired by Joanna Gaines herself. So we’re going to talk about Joanna’s favorite colors and how she mixes colors to create an open home, invitations and smooth transitions.
So let’s talk about Joanna’s old favorite first. I want to share these first ones with you because they are mine too. I have used these colors in my house and I can say that they look just as beautiful as the Fixer Upper House! At the beginning of the Fixer Upper Show, Joanna turned blue and green. Very light, airy, the color of my hut! So here’s a color scheme for the entire Fixer Upper house based on Joanna’s favorites!

Let’s start with the color cut. The easiest way to make your home feel cohesive is to keep it colorful. Joanna often uses Sherwin Williams Alabaster for makeup and sometimes Sherwin Williams Pure White. Use one color to paint the house and you’ll have a home where rooms flow from one to the next.
Every home needs a neutral wall color. Joanna likes to use gray for important areas in the home. Her favorites are Sherwin Williams Mindful Grey, Oyster Pearl and Passive Grey. Repose Gray is a lighter shade than Mindful and looks great in an open plan living space. My friend chose this color for her living room and dining room and she loves it! Get a paint sample before you paint all the walls! š
Switch to nice accent colors. Joanna said she really likes blue and green. I can say without a doubt that Sherwin Williams Sea Salt is the most beautiful paint I have ever used. It’s no wonder why it’s such a popular color with Joanna and other designers. It’s the perfect blue-green color and looks great in any room. I have used it in my bathroom and laundry room!
Sherwin Williams Comfort Gray is actually not that gray in my opinion. This is another blue-green powder. And I’m in love! Joanna uses this color in the living room and bedroom, which takes a little courage, but the color is never too strong! Perfect for living room or office.
Our House: Modern Farmhouse Paint Colors
The master bedroom is the perfect place for Sherwin Williams’ intelligent gray. This color has a nice warmth, especially on wooden floors. Joanna used this color for her master bedroom and I can’t get over it! Be careful, if your bedroom does not have a lot of natural light, this could be a mistake.

Neutral Paint Colors
After posting all the amazing colors, I decided to come out with a neutral color from the Joanna GainesĀ® Paint Collection from Magnolia Home. It added warmth to my room and complemented my whiteness.
Here is a photo of the front of my laundry room. While I love the color of my wardrobe, the pale color on my walls just doesn’t do the space much good.
Go to the first chapter of the project with blue painter’s tape, brown paper to cover the white walls.
Painting can be messy work at times; Preparation is key! When the room is ready, we start painting the walls with KILZĀ® Mold and Mildew Primer. It worked great and did a great job of polishing and covering the existing paint. We only need one set of primers! Highly recommend!

Tip: Magnolia paint is a stain remover and primer! I was so happy to find that this dye has anti-fungal and water-resistant properties, which was exactly what I needed in a busy laundry!
I really like the paint color change! It was the perfect shade to complement my gray-blue wardrobe. I hung some simple laundry signs on the wall and added some laundry essentials to the shelves.
