After my last post, the full house renovation show of our woodland cabin, I had several readers email or text me or comment on the paint colors we used on that house. Although we used mainly white throughout the house, we also used some gray and blue accents in most of the rooms.

Personally, white is the perfect backdrop to use other colors and shades in my decorating choices. I like to decorate with color, and the white shell allows me to combine different colors that I can change depending on the season. I put together most of the paint color scheme for the whole house before I moved in and started painting and I keep the scraps of paint taped to paper and tucked away safely in my office closet for easy access whenever I need to call them on the go. home Choosing my colors early on allowed me to create a cohesive feel and a nice sense of flow from room to room. I used different brands of paint in this house, but the color matched all my colors (including the kitchen cabinets, which were gray), Benjamin Moore colors, because most people have access to Benjamin Moore paints or a Benjamin Moore color store. As I mentioned, we painted most of the walls and trim in our house a soft white, which is the closest color I can find to Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace. Benjamin Moore’s beautiful, well-known white is fresh and crisp, not too blue-toned, but still warm and inviting. I love the look of fresh, crisp white on paneling and woodwork, how about that? It creates a strong effect and the cut gives a lot of dimension without being overwhelming. We will also be using this paint color throughout our new construction home.
We added charcoal gray to the fireplace in the living room, as well as an accent wall in the adjacent TV area. I think the color made the fireplace stand out and added a touch of elegance and sophistication to what could have been a dated look in our room. The Benjamin Moore gray closest to the charcoal color I chose is simply called “Grey”.
One of the questions I get asked a lot is what color paint is our master bedroom and bathroom? The walls are white, except for the accent color we added in the vertical bowl behind the toilet and sink. I chose a calm, hazy shade that matches Benjamin Moore’s Woodlawn Blue color. I love the way we used this color with our warm white vanity and gold hardware and mirrors.

We painted the upstairs hallway and basement family room a very light, airy, cool but slightly warm gray that matches the Benjamin Moore Horizon. It’s almost white in the photos because it’s fresh and bright, but you can just see the contrast between the walls and the Chantilly Lace trim. This light gray kept things classy and calm while adding some dimension to these spaces, which could have been a little cold if painted pure white.
I also get several emails from readers asking about kitchen cabinet color. It’s actually called “Grimslov Grey” and it’s from Ikea (although it may be the door color which is now discontinued in some places). I stained it at my local Benjamin Moore with their “Fusion” color. It’s a medium gray shade that I think creates a relaxed and sophisticated feel in our kitchen. As much as I love white kitchens, I also love the added dimension with this shade of gray.
Another favorite reader question is the color we used on the accent wall in our youngest son’s bedroom. It’s Benjamin Moore Hale Navy – a color I also used in the bathroom at our previous lake house. Hale Navy is one of my favorite Benjamin Moore colors of all time. It is strong and powerful but not surprising. Paired with white walls, as we did here, it feels cool and fresh. Used in a room or in wardrobes, I think it will add sophistication and elegance to a space.
In our other son’s bedroom and also in the basement bedroom we used a gray that I matched with Benjamin Moore Whitestone. It’s a nice clean gray with lots of blue undertones.
