White is popular among homeowners, and it’s not hard to see why. “Whites can do a lot to brighten up a room, make a small space feel bigger, or provide a blank canvas for any style,” explains Erika Woelfel, vice president of paint at Behr Paints. Behr’s Crunchy Polar Bear is a consistent bestseller.

Pure white and layered antique white have a softer, warmer look reminiscent of parchment paper and frothy coffee. Kelly-Moore’s Antique White is an excellent and aptly named example. “It’s the perfect backdrop for both accents and artistic displays in colorful, neutral spaces,” says Kelly-Moore Color Marketing Manager Mary Lawlor.

A step down the white color spectrum, Classic Blonde is a warm shade of yellow. Blonde highlights when you cut it with bright white, and the combination with brown, rust red and blue is a natural choice. “Time-neutral products like Navajo White are consistently among our best sellers,” confirms Erika Woelfel.
The calming qualities of native blue are undeniable, making shades like Aleutian from Sherwin-Williams popular. “Aleut is a hazy gray-blue reminiscent of misty morning showers,” says Sue Wadden, director of color marketing for Sherwin-Williams. The versatile blue color works in cozy bedrooms, spacious living rooms and anywhere else.
In recent years, light gray has become a neutral color in many homes, and it’s easy to see why – while gray enhances the decor of a room, the color itself represents style. “Our most popular color in 2017 was grey,” says Sue Wadden of Sherwin-Williams. “It’s a modern color with a refreshing, cool vibe.”
As our interest in gray grows, Americans turn up the volume and deepen their chosen shade, sometimes charcoal bordering on black. One of Pratt & Lambert’s best-selling products is Rubidoux, “a warm, sophisticated gray that works as a background and stand-alone accent,” says Pratt & Lambert senior designer Ashley Bunbury.

The popularity of green interior color is due to the fact that the color is associated with the natural world. Not surprisingly, some of Benjamin Moore’s best-selling colors are Soft Garden Green and Guilford Green. “It’s one of our best-selling colors and pairs well with a variety of materials, fabrics and furniture,” says Andrea Magno of Benjamin Moore’s color and design team.
This is the design we use when we want to increase the atmosphere in a room or create a fun and happy atmosphere in our home. Ask Sherwin-Williams Sue Wadden about her company’s best seller Friendly Yellow. “It’s a muted, pale yellow that lights up any room with a cheerful, comfortable tone,” she says.

When we moved into our current home, we went through the entire house color journey and learned which colors work well with different finishes, decorating styles and all tastes.
On the contrary, I have also learned from previous mistakes. In our first house, I painted every room a different color…but it just didn’t look right!
Matching the look of your home with a whole house color palette means that paint colors can be the perfect backdrop for other elements in your home to really shine.

As a general rule, I recommend that you avoid strong blues and yellows when choosing house colors.
Blue can make a room cold and dreary, and yellow can be a great way to warm up sterile white, but there’s just too much that most people don’t want to see in the perfect paint color.

This way, any cool light will be offset by warm colors, and warm lighting will not completely remove the color.
This is my favorite polish color because it works everywhere! My entire main floor was painted Repose Gray where I repainted and lightened the color to 50%.
I am obsessed with how light and bright it makes any room feel. It’s the perfect neutral underlayer with just enough warmth to ensure no room is ever cold.
Although Repose Gray is technically a green/taupe shade, I found it barely noticeable. At full power you may get a little green tint, but it doesn’t matter.
Best Paint Colors For Rooms With Natural Light
At half power (at 50%) these colors retain enough warmth, but are no longer visible in all lighting conditions (at least I’ve seen them!).
The great thing about Repose Gray is that it pairs well with a variety of accent colors and furniture colors. I have seen it in light and dark wood. In contrast, yellow, blue, green and white accents look nice.
Repose Lightens gray colors by 50%. This kitchen is lit in the east and west. The photo was taken in the afternoon sun, so the darkest shade of color can be seen in the upper right corner. The island color is BM Boothbay Gray and the trim color is SW Pure White.
Other shades that work well with Repose Grey: SW Mindful Gray and SW Chelsea Gray are good contrasting colors on an accent wall next to Repose Grey.
