Raised Ranch Remodel Floor Plans – We moved our house plans for a ranch-style house in Utah to the city! I hope to be able to start homework in the next week or two. We received that lovely note from someone who knew the previous owners of the house. His wife died 40 years before his husband, and although he had the means to renovate the house, he did not want to change anything from what his beloved wife had chosen. Loved the story and planned to honor the house by making it as good as possible for our family.
I wanted to share the floor plans with you! You always have such great ideas, so leave us a comment. We love the current floor plan and wanted to change it up a bit. Check out the plans below and why we’ve made the changes.
Raised Ranch Remodel Floor Plans
If you’ve read this blog post about the first exterior ideas, you’ll have read that I wanted to add a window upstairs between the two bedrooms, but that didn’t work with the current plans. So we went back to the drawing board and came up with this floor plan idea…
Mechanicsburg 70’s Split Level Renovation
Walk-in closets are nice, but unnecessary, and we prefer a window to a walk-in closet. I know some may think this is crazy! The more windows, the better, in my opinion.
We really wanted the girls to have a bath and one of them loves to have a bath. Also, we need two separate toilets, which used to be the biggest problem for girls using bathrooms. One went to the bathroom or wanted to compose himself, and the other had to enter.
We decided to leave the stone and not paint it (outside). We really need grout between the stones (inspiration photo below). In addition to the window, we created some dimension by pushing the area between the two bedrooms. And the roof line is more exposed.
I’m sure we’ll get some paint samples before we decide to paint the wood. But I’m leaning towards charcoal. I feel like it goes with the mountain, Utah look.
Raised Ranch Remodel
I’ve always been a fan of white houses and I think it could work with rocks. I really like the idea of painting the windows a fun color as you can see in the picture above. But the two houses next to us are painted white brick, so I don’t want to paint them white.
It whitens the wood. I don’t think we will, but it will be interesting to see.
I don’t particularly follow any of these ideas. Adding pictures to narrow down the look this home needs! Really helps me in my decision making.
Dark exterior with stone – love this whole look. I wonder what our exterior looks like when it gets dark.
Split Level House Renovations
Tile Source – I loved this tile for our last house and feel like I need to use it somewhere!
Green Tile Source The same tile as above, but in a fun green color. I could see it in our hall bathroom (Finn’s bathroom) or the ladies room.
Fireplace Inspiration – We are adding a gas fireplace to our bedroom and dining room. Love the look of this fireplace.
Charming colorful and charming family room – Another fireplace I love throughout this vibrant, brightly colored room. I always admire the old art in the house.
What Is A Raised Ranch?
Blue windows – I don’t think this would work if we painted our house dark, but I really like the idea.
Outdoor Fireplace Inspiration and Brick Inspiration – Love doing something similar outside. The grout of the stone is the idea of a high level rock of the stone, and the lines are as deep as they are now.
Bathroom Inspiration – Oh my god I love everything. I want to create this whole atmosphere even in our kitchen.
Floor tiles – I have already ordered a sample of these floor tiles. I think I will do it in our bathroom. Our kitchen has a wooden floor.
Modern Ranch Expansion
I’m so excited to get started! I will be making custom design boards for each room and sharing them soon!

In last week’s post about managing multiple homes, I mentioned that we bought a new home! After thinking about it for months, we got it two weeks later. Before we make the big move, I thought it would be a good time to do an introductory video tour of our new home. I’ve included lots of pictures of each room (and a floor plan)!
Maybe a bad time to move / move to a new home… We haven’t listed our house yet and I’m not going to sell it during a global crisis. But that’s an issue for another day – so let’s enjoy what we have now 🙂
Ideas For Ranch Style Home Exteriors
Yes, I said we had it two weeks ago, and yes, these photos are from that weekend. Remember we live in northern Ontario and still have lots of snow!
Our tall farmhouse is on a corner and is one of the largest farmhouses in the area/town. We weren’t looking for a house
A large but nice yard for the kids/dogs is one of our main needs. The backyard is only a few feet deep (maybe 10?), but should be the perfect size for them to play under supervision.
We have a large side yard that is mostly fenced, we think… (you can see it peeking through the snow in the middle photo). Much of the yard remains a mystery until spring.
Split Level Ranch Kitchen Ideas
The layout of the house is very similar to our main house. The entrance is huge and you go up and down. The main/upstairs is the same size as our house now, but the basement is completely open and just as big. (Now we have a crawl space that takes up half the space).
It’s 5 bedrooms (3 upstairs and 2 downstairs), but we’ll be keeping them all on the main level for the next few years. Excursion to the cellar of the new house
I will start from the ground floor and go through the various rooms. The link to the video is at the bottom of this post, so check it out if you want to see it all happen.
Down the stairs, glass french doors lead to the backyard (the feature that sold us on this house!). To the right is a bathroom and large living room and to the left of the hall are the bedrooms/laundry room.
Introducing Our New House!
The living room has a gas fireplace, natural light and a large built-in storage closet. I am already looking to organize all my things and have told the kids they can use the bottom for their things.
The bathroom is your standard toilet, sink and shower – which comes in handy when you have guests over.
Speaking of guests, a guest bedroom is planned and I’m so excited! There’s a retro rug in here, but it would be perfect for anyone visiting 🙂 Eventually, we might take this bedroom or send one of the younger kids here – but that will be years from now.
The laundry room/utility room is down the hall and is my largest laundry room 🙂 I hope it stays clean and organized. I want to store our tools in this room (we don’t have a garage yet) so this will be a chore for a while.

Finally, there is another bedroom in the basement – this one has a concrete floor. Hubby has declared this his exercise room (or “pain den”) and I’ve been waiting for a room to dump all his stuff.
I haven’t shared the footage in the video – but it’s basically just a staircase and a landing.
I have many plans to open up this space, but for now, a few nice hooks to store the dirt will go a long way. Oh, and there’s also a small storage area under the stairs – I think it would make a fun kids’ playroom.
The living room has cool wood paneled accent walls and I love the retro home vibe. I know Tootsie will love this window and we plan to make this room the center of our home (ie where the TV is).
The New Britain Raised Ranch House Plan
Like our house now, the dining room is on the other side of the living room. The kitchen is also closed off from the space and I think it is good to bring a new design. (Let’s say – “Tear down all the walls!”).
