Ranch Additions Before And After – I usually post about my house, but I wanted to show you the outside of Debbie and Martin’s, who are good friends of Ed and mine.
They were our neighbors for the 22 years we lived in PA. They moved into this house from our previous neighborhood before we moved to Lake Murray, South Carolina.
Ranch Additions Before And After
They are the same age as us and when they became empty nesters and didn’t need a big house anymore, they decided to find a smaller house with land in a more rural area.
Greenville Home Remodeling
After months of searching, they found the red brick ranch they wanted on 7 acres.
They did not limit themselves to changing the exterior of the house. They also added to the open and free garden to create a small farm with a barn and additional driveway…
I know you will love seeing how they changed the exterior to fit their dream lifestyle and vision.
This is what the house looked like before the move. The red bricks are in good condition, but not what you want.
The 70’s Ranch Renovation
They painted all the brick white, added metal roofing and hangers, vertical tablecloths, new doors and light fixtures.
This is 1970. a rear view of the brick house they’ve turned into their dream home over the years. Red/orange brick, red roof and rust/red shutters.
In addition to painting the house with white and black shutters, Debbie and Martin added a metal roof and gazebo. The path would have been paved with stones and cut flowers, herbs and vegetables would have created a white fenced bed.
Gardening is one of Debbie’s hobbies. With colorful flowers everywhere, its green potential is evident at every turn.

After they bought the house, the interior was gutted and renovated before they moved in. Over the next few years, the exterior of the house was changed.
Replacing a shingle roof with a metal roof. The metal roof is colored from Drexel Metal Roofing Systems
Here is a piece of metal roofing. The color will look different depending on the amount of light. On a bright sunny day, it looks more like silver, and on gray it looks like dark gray.
This photo shows the addition of a metal roof and rich landscaping after it has been installed.
Exterior Makeover: Brick Ranch To Modern Farmhouse
Soon after moving in, they designed a barn and a chicken coop and built both in the backyard so they wouldn’t block the view.
The old truck and tractor outside give the property the feeling that it has always been a farm with a barn on 7 acres, not just a brick meat house.
As I mentioned above, the transformation of the exterior of this house did not happen immediately, but over several years. They knew what they wanted and took the time to get it right. This is my latest home renovation project and another opportunity to use my general contracting skills to build an outdated home and transform it from neglect to a beautiful new home. Follow along with Millie’s Remodeling: A 1950 Ranch Restoration.
It’s been about six months since I picked up a hammer and started working on a house project. After the Saving Ita project ended, I took some time off from house building and enjoyed a vacation with my family. But after a few months, I noticed that the ants were growing. To be honest, I felt a little depressed doing nothing. While planning some major renovations to my home, I looked at another home option. There were many applicants, but my proposals were not accepted. Unfortunately, the investor real estate market in Raleigh is hot. This means that there are many investors and homes for sale, but the prices are too high to make money from the home.
Front Porch Addition Ideas With Before And After Photos
After a few months, I started thinking about changing the profit equation and started looking for rental properties. This will allow me to adjust my budget and find homes in surrounding neighborhoods that can be renovated and rented while I wait for the value to increase.
A little brick lot came up in my real estate search about a month ago. There were actually two ranges of bricks, but after looking at both I preferred this fantastic range of bricks from the 1950s.
The carport just doesn’t add much charm so I plan to sell as soon as possible.
The living/dining room is separated by carpeting and laminate flooring. The goal is to bring the two things together and feel like one open room.
Home Addition Ideas For Increasing Square Footage
I looked under the carpet and laminate and found wood floors under both! Unfortunately, the glue covered the laminate under the linoleum, and there is a wood floor underneath. I need to check for asbestos before I start the demolition.
I’m hoping we can remove the corner wall behind the fridge and open it up to the living room. This will give a nice open kitchen and bring more light into the kitchen. However, I will consult with my structural engineer first.
All three bedrooms are approximately the same. This is the smallest bedroom with only one window. As I did in the living room, I pulled back the carpet to reveal the wood floor below. Hello! They look rough but can be upgraded.
The third bedroom is at the back of the house and would have a better view of the back garden if we moved the shed (you’ll see a photo soon).
A Dramatic Ranch House Renovation
Although the tile floor looks structural, the tile cracks and sinks under the toilet, so you have to deal with that. Also, vanity is one of the least secretive things I’ve ever come across. I have big plans for this bathroom, including trying to save the old cast iron tub.
I have a plan to add a small powder room to my existing laundry room. Be sure to watch this video to see where it goes.
Here is a view of the courtyard. You can see the ugly mess of the shed outside the house. It’s really ugly and needs some TLC or just a complete tear down.
A patio deck was built off the rear driveway. It’s not pretty, but it looks structurally sound (or will be once I add some extra structural bolts to the posts), so I’ll leave it as is.
House Renovation Ideas
One of the biggest home problems is an old HVAC unit. My inspector advised against heating as the burner fan will not work and this is a major safety issue.
That concludes the photo tour. If you want to see the interior of the house and hear my ideas for the renovation, watch this video:
I look forward to hearing your feedback on this project. what do you think about the house? Do you have any ideas for me?

When my friend from college called and said she had a ranch style house in downtown Jenks that she thought we should check out, we jumped in the truck and drove. When we pulled up to the large lot and saw the ranch style homes lined up on it, I knew I wanted it. Mike Miller felt a little more confident when he saw the peach walls, the floral wallpaper that covered the ceiling I might add, and the enclosed kitchen with dark cabinets and a drop ceiling. Oh yeah, and the house was a 2 bedroom, 1 bath that Mike thought would be hard to resell.
As we walked past the house, my friend explained to us that the daughter of the original owner was selling it after he passed away. The same man built this house and owned it for fifty years. She raised her family and made thousands of memories within those walls. When we left, we decided to buy it and rebuild it. But what I didn’t know at the time was that while we were remodeling this house, we would meet Dorothy, our sweet 90-year-old neighbor who has become our best friend. with the original owner and we absolutely fell in love. . With the history of this house. We loved listening to Dorothy’s memories of sitting on the back porch drinking coffee and sitting around the kitchen table with friends. When we met Dorothy, we really fell in love with him
