Rooms Painted In Agreeable Gray – Go to Recipe 3270 Share 3270 Welcome to the dramatic conclusion to the story of painting my living room. Well, maybe not a story, but it’s definitely a struggle to find the right shade of gray for my living room. Well folks, as I mentioned earlier this week, it looks like I’ve found the perfect gray color for my living room. Not exactly what I thought or planned, but I’m very happy with the results. To backtrack a bit, when I moved in, my living room was painted beige. You can see it here: I decided to freshen things up with what I thought was a light gray color. However, I ended up with something that looked baby blue. See below. (You can read more about that here.) After trying at least four colors on the walls, I found something I loved: Sherwin Williams Pleasant Grey. Subtle Gray – On my living room wall, this particular gray looked like putty or mushroom gray. It made me a little nervous because it wasn’t what I wanted. Anyway, I found a Q&A that Nate Burks was doing on his Instagram stories. In one of your responses, you mentioned that a putty brown/gray wall color works really well with an emerald green sofa. *sigh moment* With that little nugget of wisdom and my beautiful green hips looking back at me, I moved on. Fortunately, I was able to repaint with just one coat, so within two hours I had the entire room done. Goodbye, ice blue-grey. Hello beautiful gray putty. Sherwin Williams agrees Gray is definitely a winner! Sherwin-Williams Pleasant Grey: It’s interesting that the wall color in this room has a chameleon quality. (I’m guessing it’s because of the lighting.) It changes throughout the day and often looks different on one wall than another. But now I’m happy to see it from all angles. Also, as Nate predicted, it works well with my chair color. I also love how it goes with the pine wreath on the mantel. (Please don’t judge me too harshly on the state of this room. After painting and starting to put up holiday decorations, it’s a mess. But that’s real life!) I also love how well it coordinates. Through my new blue entrance! Well, I think I can finally call it a paint win! It took me a few tries to get there, but I like the results. What do you think?

Gray Paint Color for My Living Room (Nice Gray) Gray Paint Color for My Living Room (Nice Gray) It’s no surprise that Sherwin Williams Pleasant Gray is one of the best choices for interior paint—it’s the perfect neutral gray. Decorating With Cream And Gray

If there’s one topic I get more emails and messages about than anything else, it’s probably color. In fact, my paint color house tour from our old colonial home is one of my most popular posts. So I decided it was time for some new posts about my favorite paint colors. Today we are going to look at Gray by Sherwin Williams.

True story. When we bought this house in preparation for our move to Texas, we decided to do just two things before we moved in: replace the floors and paint the two-story entryway SW Pleasant Gray. When we arrived (after the worst move ever, another story for another day), I sat on the couch and cried because I immediately knew what colors the painters had used.

Fortunately, they got it right. But experience has made me appreciate the agreeable gray even more. The wrong color wasn’t that far off, but it lacked the beauty of a really agreeable gray… and there was something about the day they (re)painted the walls that made me realize that this house might actually be a house.

I want to start by talking about painting: its composition, its subtlety, its power… Then we will be more clear about how we use it in real spaces. Note:

Agreeable Gray (Ag) is actually a grey—it’s a warm gray color, meaning it leans toward brown or beige rather than blue. However, I always refer to it as “chameleon color” because, depending on the light, it can look like light beige or light gray.

As with any color, it’s important to consider its nuances so you know how paint colors can change based on lighting conditions and color combinations.

Undertones are colors that can appear in certain lighting or next to other colors. Agreeable gray is blue enough to be gray than beige, but red and green enough to be one

Although the gray has a very slight purple tint, I’ve never had a problem with the green looking purple (a potential problem with cool grays).

Neutral Paint Colors

As you can see here, alongside the steel gray cabinets and Carrara marble, the AG walls have a warm, pale gray feel, almost leaning towards a creamy beige.

But here, against the rich brown wood floors (and with lots of natural light), the color looks cool, a true light gray. You can also see a touch of purple tones in the foreground and green tones near the fiddle leaf fig tree on the back wall of the dining room.

Evening light in particular will warm this color to an almost light creamy beige, while late afternoon will leave it as a pale steel grey.

While we’re on the subject of wall painting, a common question I get is what glass should you use for wall painting? In general, flat (sometimes called matte) or eggshell are the best glasses for walls.

The Trick To Get Designer Paint Colors On The Cheap

Flat or matte paint will give it a soft, delicate color and hide the defects of the wall structure; Unfortunately, flat paint is usually not very easy to clean. Eggshell is a little brighter than flat, which shows more texture on your walls, but it’s cleaner than flat paint and a better choice for homes with kids or pets. It’s also a good choice for wet areas like the kitchen or bathroom. You can use satin on the walls for better durability and ease of cleaning.

The Light Reflectance Value or LRV of any paint is a number that determines how much light the color reflects, 0 being pure black and 100 being pure white. The higher the number, the more light is reflected. Agreeable Gray has a very high LRV of 60.

If you’re trying to create a light and bright feel to your space, looking at LRVs can be helpful. If you have a dark room that requires light, you need a higher LRV. Or if you have a room that gets a lot of sunlight and you want to take advantage of it by letting out beautiful light, a higher LRV will help you do that.

In comparison, there is an LRV 58 in Repose Gray, another popular Sherwin Williams light gray. Agree Gray vs. Repose Gray is a common matchup. Repose Gray is slightly cooler than AG and as you can see from their LRV it absorbs a bit more light than AG so it’s not as bright.

Agreeable Gray Coordinating Colors

As I said, it is very important to test your paint shade in your actual space. I’ve never had a problem with paint swatches all over my walls, but I understand that sometimes it’s inconvenient. And with the challenges of getting paint samples these days, I’m excited to share a good alternative.

Samples will send you a reusable peel and stick sheet made of original paint. This allows you to move the sample around the room to capture different lighting. I hope you find this tool as useful as I do!

When it comes to Repose Grey, what other colors should you consider than Repose Grey? How does AG compare to cool or dark colors?

As I mentioned, SW Repose Gray is a touch cooler (blue) than Pleasant Grey. Repose Gray is a beautiful color and with its cool tones will give you a slightly more modern feel than the AG. Personally, I find AG more versatile than Repose Gray because it can complement the warm or cool tones of a space, like our living room with its warm sofa and cool chairs.
