Surprisingly, the ads for this year’s 5 colors were all shades of green! Perhaps this is a reflection of our renewed relationship with nature as the pandemic has forced a change in routine for most of us. The outdoors has become our place for communication, solace and socialization.

Green options range from the teal of Behr’s Breezeway to the darker yellow-green of Glidden’s Guacamole. Benjamin Moore’s 2022 color of the year, October Mist, is in the middle. It is a complex gray green with a touch of warmth.

The green in general and the October fog in particular act almost neutral. It goes well with many other colors. It works with most other shades of green as well as a variety of blues, pinks, purples, corals and yellows. When combined with white, it feels fresh and mixed with black, it gives an air of sophistication. Of course, it also works well with almost any color of stained wood, from faded birch and pickled oak to the rich tones of mahogany and fruitwood, whether in millwork, floors, or furniture.

The color of October for 2022 was chosen by Benjamin Moore, which is the brilliant silver-green October fog. I love it so much, I chose it for our modern Mediterranean kitchen!
In daylight at certain angles, it can read almost gray or blue, while it looks warmer under incandescent light. This is a great option if you are looking for a light, non-saturated green that is not too warm.

It is a true green and is not as likely to be confused with gray or blue as some of the other sages.

One of the darkest examples on this list is the Forest Floor: a deviation in an olive or forest area. It’s still very quiet, and would be a good choice if you want a more versatile sage green.
Flora is a delicious green sage that is lighter and more saturated. It tends to mint green just a touch, but is still neutral enough to be classified as sage.

It’s also one of the darkest examples in this post, and I’ll add that it looks darker in many other examples I’ve seen (well-lit magazine photos tend to be lighter).
This shade also tends to lean towards grey/blue, although it looks more green in the kitchen below:
Clary Sage has yellow/olive tones and is a great choice if you are looking for a light and warm sage.
Acacia Haze is a mid-tone green with cooler undertones. Looking at the samples, it appears to be a lighter version of the Retreat.

It is more saturated than some other wise and should look like true green in all lighting conditions.
I love this kitchen mixed with copper, white and wood tones. A great option if you want an earthy, neutral color with a touch of green.

Behind Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams, Farrow & Ball is a popular brand of cabinet paint, often used by designers. The choice of its colors is very limited, with an emphasis on rich and sophisticated tones.
One of its most popular colors of all, the Pigeon is a real chameleon. They range from green to blue to gray and even brown, depending on the lighting and angle. You’ve probably come across it at least a few times on Pinterest or Instagram…
If you like the idea of a tried and true color that takes on a different mood at different times of the day, try this color!
Another popular chameleon color from Farrow & Ball. Although French Gray falls more into the “green” category, with less shades of blue than Pigeon.
Cobalt & Cloth
Lichen is a true sage green, although you will find that it also looks very different in many examples online.
From F&B’s website: “This calming and soothing green is named after the delicate creeping moss color that ages the stone so beautifully.”
Castle Gray has a fair amount of blue, I call it jade green. Farrow and Ball describe it as a “versatile grey-green”.
Treron is classified as a dark green version of Pigeon, a nice neutral but angry sage.

Ball Green is referred to as the “Silver Green designation”, and I see a few shades of yellow in the examples online. It’s one of the warmer options on this list and a really nice earth tone.
