I don’t think I was exaggerating when I saw that I purchased 38 mini paint sample containers from Sharon Williams. Not to mention gas + travel time to their store.

There was no doubt in my mind that I wanted a light beige house. The problem was finding a paint I liked.

This was a few weeks ago. We trimmed the trees in front of the house and pulled out a lot of hedges and bushes. Remember that nothing but grass was touched for 4 years. So this was a separate task.
It’s difficult to photograph a house. Because it is a tall breed, there is not much architectural detail. So what you don’t see is the master bedroom on the left and the detached garage. You can also see the paint swatches I did near the front door. But the thing is that everything is brick. And we needed an exterior paint that would match the brick + as best as possible. We chose the longevity formula from Sharon Williams.
I thought I had already chosen the perfect shade of gray and presented it when our artists were finished. I felt very good about it. I’m very glad I found this section.
It was the delight of victory, which immediately turned into the agony of defeat when I saw it at home. I thought I had the right color.

I was driving my husband crazy, not to mention the cost of the first coat of paint, I was driving my friends crazy too. When you talk about the “approval process,” it’s important to hear other people’s opinions, but what you really need to remember is that you should decide on a paint color. Only you – because you will be with him. Luckily, I had two dear friends around me who know me well and I trust their judgment, so they helped me narrow down my choices.
You can see the icy blue-gray underneath all the color swatches. I’m sure it’s hard to tell from the picture, but trust me, it looked icy blue-gray to me. I believe that most of Sharon William Gray is here on our side of the house. This time I wanted to believe. People tell me to go more with beige-gray or green-gray. But I didn’t want any of those shades. I wanted a clean silver gray color.

Let me explain the % numbers you see above. You see, it started in my daughter’s room when I was trying to decide between two colors of pink (another difficult color!) and my artist (god loves him) said, “Why don’t you do that? Make them draw harder and make it a brighter color?” That’s exactly what I did with the pink color we finally chose for her room. Its color is also 125%.

That’s what I did here with Gray. I wanted them to enhance the colors that I really liked so I could see them a little darker or more saturated. I really hope everything makes sense to you. Because sometimes paint colors need an extra boost to make them more saturated. Also, another thing to think about is when you find a color you really like, since your home will be exposed to a lot of outside elements, enhancing the paint can help with fading over time. I mean…let’s be honest. It will fade no matter what.
One day I narrowed it down to the 13 colors listed above. I painted large samples so I could see them at home. The far right is the original (green) color when we bought the house. On the right you can see where they started cutting. But then I stopped them – because the paint was too icy blue.
And so I sit for many days. So I’ll be completely safe… and drive my friends crazy. 😉

We still have some adjustments to make and the whole molding needs another layer. I don’t think I mentioned that my husband and I are big fans of dark gutters and gutters against a light house. Yes, I know that many people don’t feel the same way as we do. Because I’ve been told a lot of things lately. Or asked me why I decided to do it. But we like it, and I answer these people: “This is our house.” All of our curtains will be black and the front door will be black.
In time, we will build a new roof on this house. This house now has 3 terraces. But it’s not about the budget. So let’s wait a while. It will also be black. I’m pretty sure that when the time comes, we’ll build a black metal roof.

The fact is that painted brick adds a whole new element of texture to what is usually solid slab in most homes.
I love this texture too! But trying to figure out how to emphasize the details of a traditional “farmhouse” is not an easy task.
It’s not that much. OK OK??? Well, the picture below inspired me. And I sincerely believe that I would not have paid attention to the brick window sills (?) under the windows if I had not seen this house on Pinterest.
It brings more detail throughout the home. And this is the cheapest trick to show what the power of paint can do when you paint the brick window sills under the windows.

Below is an example of how I am trying to match the colors and styles of my home. I use my iPhone and create photo collages for inspiration from Pinterest. It really helped me visualize the colors and paint styles I was trying to achieve. I did this with a few photos for inspiration and look at them no matter where I am, or when I’m at home, for comparison.

Home Exterior Makeover — Style It Pretty Home
As I said above – we are almost finished drawing. Below was the big plan for us. While it doesn’t look “beautiful” or enjoy an “after” photo, it actually takes a lot of sweat and muscle to get to that point.
All the brown/beige siding you see is new siding (unpainted, of course). We had to replace it all because it was rotten. As I shared on IG, we are currently demolishing the gazebo pictured above. We decided to make it bigger and better. We will also distribute it to the territory you see above. Wall with a window on the right – we will bring it to this wall and it will end where you will see a sewer with a garbage can. We will build a roof over it so that we have a covered area.
But we also replaced all the seals in all those wooden windows. All wooden windows are very beautiful, but can rot in an instant if you don’t take care of them! And since the house was empty for almost 4 years …
I think, or at least hope, that things will really start to move forward with our reno house in the next few weeks. We hope to move there within a month. Cross your fingers! In the world of decor and color, I’ve always found it interesting that there is a healthy demand for gray paint. So much so that we have several Sharon Williams options to choose from based on your space or home needs.
