Sherwin Williams Lacquer For Cabinets – Ancaster, Ontario. These cabinets were refinished by Sharrard Painting and Fine Finishing last fall. They were painted with a Greco 395 Air Assisted Sprayer for shop work and Capspray 8100 (3-stage turbine) for field work. Color CC-20 Decorators White. The cabinet doors are made of heavy and extremely strong MDF board. They were finished with two coats of Kem Aqua Surfacer and two coats of Kem Aqua Loss Blending White.

Update 2020: Sharrard Painting no longer uses Chem Aqua Lacquer. Compared to solvent-based paints after catalysis, it does not have durability and wear. Because it has low VOCs, it’s a good mid-level paint if you don’t have proper ventilation or a spray booth, but it can be very difficult to spray if you don’t understand the variables properly.

Mushroom glaze was very popular about 10 years ago, I really liked it, but in step with the times – solid glaze, no glaze. Glazing is a wonderful technique that helps to hide many imperfections in the finish, and I can see why craftsmen use it so often.

The “tips” under the island and hood will be a real challenge in pure white. The interior decoration of the display case and its shelves needs finishing. Crowns can come off, but if you move them, you risk breaking the seal at the corners.

Quality floor paper is where it all starts. The material we use here is called anchor paper (not red rosin paper) and comes from ICI/DULUX paints in Oakville. Great material – feels like rubber – somewhat water/solvent resistant, unlike rosin paper. Using a 3M hand mask, one for paper and one for plastic wrap is great.

Topcoat Chem Aqua Low Gloss Blending White – shade CC20 Decorators White (Ben Moore). The customer has replaced the floor with a beautiful parquet, but has not yet replaced the partition; Marble surface in both shades (an island of a different color) – sharp look!

In order to be able to give an accurate design estimate for cabinet painting, we need the following information:

1) Add photos of the kitchen that reflect the size or, in other words, the number of doors and drawers that the kitchen has. So you’ve decided your kitchen needs a facelift, you’ve done your research, and you’ve had it professionally painted, because we’re telling you that varnishing your cabinets is the best choice. At first you wanted to completely rebuild. . . You thought your Uncle Gene said he left you in some “crazy country” but in his South Texas accent it just sounded that way. Basically he said “every country is damned” because of course he’s not giving a damn. Now you want him to just do his thing… whatever. Either way, you see your opportunity for new cabinets slipping away. You decide that it is a picture in the closet.

So what are your options for painting or refinishing your cabinets? And why do we think that painting cabinets with varnish is a great option?

We know you want a dream kitchen – or at least one you can walk into without hesitation:

As we mentioned in Part 1, outdated cabinets are a common scourge. One day they all woke up to find they hated their “orange” wooden cabinets (usually golden oak). The most expensive option is a complete replacement of the cabinet. This is effectively a kitchen renovation in itself, if you add the cost of replacing the countertop and sink. Next in cost are new doors and re-cladding. Both options look great, but they can cost tens of thousands of dollars – much more than just painting the cabinets. You will be paying for these cabinets for quite some time. (That gorgeous remodeled kitchen above? It’s part of a whole house remodeling project we worked on for Haven Design and Construction in San Antonio. Yep, tens of thousands of dollars.)

Or you can go old school by completely stripping and dirtying the cabinets. “Refreshing” cabinets used to mean “remove and dirty” but I’ve never seen that work. Don’t get me wrong, we’ve all seen a great piece of dark, understated furniture at some point. But those who try to repair the cabinets in this way quickly understand what an insurmountable task they have set before themselves. Every cabinet door or drawer can be a small piece of furniture, so imagine 50 to 100 items in your kitchen alone. It’s definitely not for the faint of heart. Maybe your Uncle Bob once did. Good for him, but I bet he was retired, pressed for time, and considered renovating the cabinets a “labor of love.”

So consider hiring a professional to do this tedious job. The key word is “boring”. A professional knows what he is getting into and calculates accordingly. If you don’t have access to a few pennies a day to dismantle those cabinets, then it’s time to look for more practical alternatives.

Use varnish if you want a fresh furniture color like gray or white or a bright color like blue or black. It’s smooth as butter with no brush marks. (By the way, the gorgeous kitchen cabinets in our Inside Story Design title were lacquered in a shade that matches Sherwin Williams’ Repose Gray.) And if you want to keep the look of stained wood, we use lacquer for that, too. We add stain-like hues to the clear finish to transform your Little House on the Prairie into a modern beauty with vibrant hues. Honestly, you have to see it to believe it. By the way, this technique usually accounts for 20-50% of cabinet replacements, so you don’t need to take out a loan to bring your kitchen into the 21st century. You’ll save a lot of space in the landfill, and you’ll also save money by not having to replace countertops, sinks, and faucets while you’re at it.

Sure, but to be honest, I recommend using colored varnish instead of traditional paint for all of the reasons above. Oil-based paint used to be the standard for painting cabinets, but it takes too long to dry, your home wears forever, and (worst of all) bright colors yellow over time. Mostly we use traditional paint when we apply a decorative glaze or antique finish, or for other special reasons – otherwise the varnish wins.

The short answer is yes, there are specific colors for cabinets. There are many different options, which we will discuss shortly. The only thing you need to know about all cabinet colors is that they are usually more solid than other exterior and interior colors.

Tips For Painting Cabinets With Lacquer

What is a “complex” color? The main thing is that it should be more durable. Cabinets are regularly opened and closed, washed and cleaned. Ordinary paint that you apply to the wall will quickly begin to break under such conditions. There is no cabinet color. Varnish is used as a protective layer.

Whether you do it yourself or hire a professional, here are some of the most common kitchen cabinet colors:

Let’s take a look at these three products and see what makes them so special for painting kitchen cabinets.

Breakthrough is one of PPG’s flagship products. PPG tends to be a cheaper paint product, but their breakthrough line is a solid option for those looking for affordable, high-performance paints. Innovative benefits include:

Sherwin Williams Kem Aqua Plus

“Resistance” refers to the resistance of the color to wear and tear and daily use. The higher the hardness, the longer the coating will last.

PPG Breakthrough is also convenient because it does not require a top coat. This makes it a good choice if you want to do the job yourself. However, this does not mean that it is perfect. PPG aims for a smooth finish, so you have to be extra careful to get it right. This is not necessarily the case for other leading brands.
